There is a lot of stub pages in wiki which might never be updated. The question is should we delete old stub pages or keep them and hope that someone will update them in the future? Or should they be saved as historical information in the wiki? Share your opinion with us. Here's some comments from last month:

: I don't agree with you. Pages should be left here as historical information. We shouldn't solve stub problem with deletion of pages. There's a lot of citizen pages with proper templates + some text put for deletion as useless. I would never delete a citizen page as useless as it's practically a game feature that every citizen has right to have a citizen page. It's different thing if there's a only one sentence in some foreign language and not even the template. I urge every SysOp to refrain from deleting any citizen, party, company, newspaper etc. page which is marked as useless. --Finland<small><strong>sampo555 | Talk</strong></small> 16:38, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

This wiki is about eRepublik - as you can see from the name: eRepublik official wiki. However there is a lot of fictional pages in user namespace. The question is: should we allow to let users make fictional stuff in their userspace or should we keep the fictional stuff out of this wiki? Here's a comment from last months discussion.

Main idea: if a contributor has imagination; let him/her. If that same contributor wants to have 10, 20, 100, 100, 5000 sandbox pages - the same contributor should be allowed to (the "malicious purposes" still stands). I would rephrase your entire speech to one simple question: do you consider we need a policy like this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability - in our Wiki? Belea2008

:As a new editor I'd like to toss in my ideas about this.  The reason that I became interested in the wiki is 1) because new players have really no other way to get an idea about what is going on, or the historical context in which it is occurring.  The game history/politics is overwhelming to newbies and it probably results in a poor retention level.  In my opinion this is the main purpose of the wiki.  To clear things up and provide ... well .. eHistory.  2) as an extension of the game that allows us to continue playing even once we have done our in-game stuff.  It is this second point that causes the concern.  I think there should be a lot of latitude in making things up and being creative, because that's the fun part.  Players should be able to create their own personal history, religion, clubs, groups, etc.  But I think there should be a line drawn when it conflicts with and is outside of the scope of the game.  It does have to have some basis in the game.  The Avataronia epic series is a good example.  On the surface it looks like a group of players doing their own thing, but as pointed out, they are seeding the content into "official" looking pages.  This produces confusion for new users and should be addressed.  My recommendation is to use a tagging template system to label content that is outside the scope of the game, or essentially user-created.  Something like one of the Help:Common_templates/Templates with a text body of This is a user-created page.  Content should not be considered part of formal eRepublik history..  I'm hesitant about prohibiting editors to have a little fun with the game by being creative. Notability is dicey ... basically any player could write an article themselves about Avataronia, and then guess what ... it passes notibility.  If an editor has a problem with content they can always request a cite, and after a while remove the offending content - if necessary by sending it to AfD where both sides can state their case.  --Citizen 6 02:26, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

: Regarding general fictional content - there is already a notability policy of sorts for Religious institutions that began after several unimportant religions appeared during after the creation of churchism and theocracy as separates from dioism (churchism itself was removed for not being able to adhere to the notability requests). I agree that a similar policy should be adopted for all fictional groupings (such as alliances / military factions that do not use the new module / 'independent regions' et. al.). Citizen pages on the other hand is a slightly more complex issue. For citizens interested in the role play of the game they may talk about their childhood or bizarre adventures of how they came to their political positions and gruesome stories of their military victims - Emerick to use an easy example treats his page as a diary and often references the fictional character his avatar is based upon. I like these kind of pages. As older users will remember the 'this page contains fictional information' template was not a favourite of users and unfortuantly I am at lose as to suggestions to please both sides regarding those fantasy-based pages. ::why was the 'this page contains fictional information' template not favorable?  Would a 'this page contains user-created information and may not conform to the eRepublik timeline' (or something to that effect) likely end-up displeasing the opposing group in the same manner?  Sorry, just missed all that discussion. -- <span style="text-shadow:#BBBBBB 0.2em 0.2em 0.1em; class=texhtml">Citizen 6</span> | <span style="text-shadow:#BBBBBB 0.2em 0.2em 0.1em; class=texhtml">Talk</span> 12:11, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

My suggestion: You combine the unit articles into the fleet article (HMS fezoj, HMS Lionheart, HMS Rodney Mckay combined to Channel Fleet etc.). In my opinion articles that have only few sentences are totally useless and should be deleted. Or another possibility is that you add content to the pages and make them more informing. --Finland<small><strong>sampo555 | Talk</strong></small> 07:03, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

I see that Thomas765 has started to create several templates about regions. He probably doesn't know that there was an official change (find the section called NOW HEAR THIS - OFFICIAL CHANGE) made more than a year ago. The main reason of removal of this templates were that they quickly become out of date... Parties change name, regions change hands during war... The question is, should we continue this policy and undo the changes made by Thomas, or should we make a policy change... For example, templates with original list of regions are allowed on the pages? Or something like that. I would really appreciate your feedback on this matter. Thank you.--<span style="color:#200">AndyCro</span> Croatia <small>Click here to talk with me baby! ;)</small> 11:41, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

::: I thought it would help navigation, and I was thinking about the conquered regions last night. I knew that some where deleted in the past but I only really did it for countries I was helping on the wiki to begin with. However, when I saw that Grzechooo had added templates for Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Egypt and Rowan had added one for Belgium, I continued. It's fine if they're deleted, I just thought it was helpful, especially on region pages for navigating around the country's regions. If you'd like a list of those that've been done, then I can give you one in the event that they need removing. - 13:24, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

::We had a similar discussion about citizen pages before. In fairness, the example you gave had the text, "read the Brazilian version for more info". But I think in general, we should never delete citizen articles purely because they do hold some value, even if they are almost empty. Stubs I think should be placed on any v. short article, although the problem with articles like organisations (fabricated and real) and citizens is that only a select few know about them, so there is little chance that the stub will be corrected unless that person comes back :/ - <span style="font-family: Century; background-color: Yellow;"><font color="#416927" style="font-family: sans-serif;">John F Baker</font> Talk/Royal Navy</span> 21:05, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Here are some active discussion about wiki.

Discussion 1: Deleting stubs

There is a lot of stub pages in wiki which might never be updated. The question is should we delete old stub pages or keep them and hope that someone will update them in the future? Or should they be saved as historical information in the wiki? Share your opinion with us. Here's some comments from last month:

-1 I don't agree with you. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 16:38, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
+1 While I agree with sampo about citizen, party, and newspaper pages, I agree with Wes on org and company stubs. Org stubs don't really give much historical information aside from their one-time existence. Companies change hands fairly often. Most of the time, the new owner changes the company name. Eventually most companies become inactive and dormant. If the article is only a stub with an infobox saying "This company used to exist", I don't see it as contributing much of historical value. --Chris Stanwick 14:49, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
-1 I don't agree with you, it's not right to just delete them, it's all part of eRepublik history, and it should be available for others. Like an example, if you stop playing, and after some while someone deletes your page, how would you feel? Yeah, many of them don't invest much effort on their pages, but don't delete them —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hurkancs (talkcontribs)
+1 I cannot think of a better way to clean up the wiki than to get rid of pages that are never updated with information simply because no-one cares about them. Pierric Bross 09:09, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
-1 Just because no one has the time to improve a page, it does not mean that the mentioned page should be deleted. After all, one or more contributors contributed to that stub page. All pages start as stubs; if we start deleting them, it would be like saying to those few contributors that their effort was for nothing. I would go with a different approach, encourage all contributors to improve stub pages on a daily basis. --Belea2008 15:33, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Discussion 2: Fictional content in user pages

This wiki is about eRepublik - as you can see from the name: eRepublik official wiki. However there is a lot of fictional pages in user namespace. The question is: should we allow to let users make fictional stuff in their userspace or should we keep the fictional stuff out of this wiki? Here's a comment from last months discussion.

If I may, a few points:

 • "The sandbox is a page designed for testing and experimenting with wiki syntax. However, it must not be used for malicious purposes."
 • AC had over 60 sandboxes at one point in time; you can still find some of them here
 • He was the major contributor to Dioism (and one of its "ambassadors") and fictional articles (and the policies which govern them). He is still a SysOp (although no longer active)

—Preceding unsigned comment added by Belea2008 (talkcontribs)

As a new editor I'd like to toss in my ideas about this.
Regarding general fictional content - there is already a notability policy of sorts for Religious institutions that began after several unimportant religions appeared during after the creation of churchism and theocracy as separates from dioism (churchism itself was removed for not being able to adhere to the notability requests). Pierric Bross 09:05, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
why was the 'this page contains fictional information' template not favorable? Would a 'this page contains user-created information and may not conform to the eRepublik timeline' (or something to that effect) likely end-up displeasing the opposing group in the same manner? Sorry, just missed all that discussion. --Icon-USA.png Citizen 6 | Talk 12:11, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

I don't fully understand.... why can't we just write those numbers with a comma? --Belea2008 12:50, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
It's templates, skils templates manipulate strings as numbers so on "90172" format, mediawiki does not support numbers with comma. you can see this template for example : Template:Economy_skill. "90,172" is better to read than "90172" but can't do this for the moment, we could do it with that with and functions. ~~ Azaret Icon-Paraguay.png déjame un mensaje (: 13:00, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Discussion 4: Flag ball icons of fictional countries

As you can see here there is over 100 national icons (flag balls) in the wiki. However there is only 69 countries. This means there is about 30 FlagBalls that don't belong to official countries of eRepublik. And also great part of those 30 isn't used anywhere. So my point is: why do we need these for? Share your thoughts! --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 20:55, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Personally I don't see any usage for these. We can always keep saying if the country is added, then we have flag balls ready for them. But I'd like to wait until we know these countries are coming. So I'd get rid of unused FlagBalls. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 20:55, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
Just leave em IMO, better to have em and wait for them to become useful, than not have them when the countries appear. - John F Baker Icon-UK.png Talk/Special Boat Service 11:05, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

Rank template update

Rank template will now default to icon of private if the typing of the rank is wrong. I also made it possible to use V1 ranks with the template (e.g. Icon Colonel.jpg V1 Colonel). If you notice that some parts aren't working drop me a line and I'll what I can do. Also if you have something against this update, feel free to come forward. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 23:53, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Is it just me or does it show private for everyone? Have a look at this: Icon rank Commander*.png Commander* ? --Code-Y 03:33, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Standard names for product icons

Standards are good, aren't they? I've seen product icons for different qualities uploaded with and quite interesting names. I would like to standardize the product icon names to: Icon product Qx.png

So if some SysOp could move following files, I would be happy (I'll be dealing with the redirects so you don't need to worry about them):

Thank you! --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 15:45, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Templates: Regions of XX

I see that Thomas765 has started to create several templates about regions. He probably doesn't know that there was an official change (find the section called NOW HEAR THIS - OFFICIAL CHANGE) made more than a year ago. The main reason of removal of this templates were that they quickly become out of date... Parties change name, regions change hands during war... The question is, should we continue this policy and undo the changes made by Thomas, or should we make a policy change... For example, templates with original list of regions are allowed on the pages? Or something like that. I would really appreciate your feedback on this matter. Thank you.--AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 11:41, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

I'd go for putting only the original regions of each country. Or, if not:
that. Citizen1931693 v3.png Khebit 12:05, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
How about we just leave it to show the original regions and not conquered regions. It means we don't have to update them. Icon-UK.pngIcon-Australia.png Rowan Quigley Talk to me! 12:53, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
Go for original regions, as here:

--Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 17:12, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

I thought it would help navigation, and I was thinking about the conquered regions last night. ~ Icon-UK.png Thomas765 come talk - 13:24, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

These kind of templates should only have original regions. BTW I could make a script that will automatically update the region template and this kind of templates with new owners. The problem is that I would have to run it manually and if I'm not around, you would have to do it by hand. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 16:16, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

I agree with only doing original regions, it can get messy. Although I don't mind continuing with doing the way I did with original regions being conquered by putting the region in italics and putting the flagball at 10 or 15 pixels beside it, for example:
United Kingdom Dublin OR United Kingdom Dublin
but it does look slightly odd. I would very much like to continue making the templates as it's one thing I enjoyed doing so I'll leave the discussion to continue and contribute regularly. ~ Icon-UK.png Thomas765 come talk - 18:52, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Report: eCroatia first RL Meeting in 2011

This was few minutes before pub closing time

I don't know will you like it, but this is a small report from the first 2011 meeting in Croatia.

So, I am twoclicking the eRepublik and my eye catches the article big meeting at pub Bear on Friday, January 21, 2011. So I start to read the article and when I saw that there will be around 50 people there, so I decided to go.

On that Friday, a very cold day here in Croatia, especially in Zagreb, I parked my car on pub's parking place and noticed a bus from Dubrovnik... No, the passengers were not people, they were multi-accounts from that part of Croatia. I am entering the pub and one part of this pretty large pub was PTO'd by different kind of eRepublik players.

I know couple of them, but the main reason of my coming there were Les Paul, a friend from Bosnia and Herzegovina, who changed countries to meet me, and of course beautiful women players. I talked about two hours with most of them and the conclusion was next:

 • Admins suck (that was consensus) mostly because they are changing the game with no warning (sorry Belea, they said it)
 • Almost 90 % has multi-accounts (yes, I am in the stupid 10 %)
 • Only few of old players still play the game (again, I am probably the oldest one on the meeting)
 • The difference between new and old players is to big (a person can't gather so much skill as the old ones) - this is very important because it happens that people sell their accounts for RL money!!!
 • The difference in modules is also to big (If you are a soldier you will earn far more Experience points) so there is no point to be a "honest" politician

And there was also some remembering of old times where it was a great job to be the President of a country and when there were only a few multi-accounts.

The two hours went very fast, it was very interesting... If you don't trust me, check the video or the photo album. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 17:09, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Multis, multis everywhere!
Also, many countries do RL meetings usually, I propose the creation of pages in which all these meetings will be, to know just a bit of the connection between RL and eR :D ||||||Khebit TC| 20:05, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Question: Stubs

On what pages can I put this: Stub Are there any restrictions: eg. age of the page, creation date or last edited or citizens pages etc.? Also are we doing anything with pages like this: Acsara_m; Where citizen is banned, dead etc? -- Gucio16 21:51, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

My suggestion would be not to slap any stub sign on any page, before you learn to sign your comments--Quicksilver 20:58, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
We had a similar discussion about citizen pages before. In fairness, the example you gave had the text, "read the Brazilian version for more info". But I think in general, we should never delete citizen articles purely because they do hold some value, even if they are almost empty. Stubs I think should be placed on any v. short article, although the problem with articles like organisations (fabricated and real) and citizens is that only a select few know about them, so there is little chance that the stub will be corrected unless that person comes back :/ - John F Baker Icon-UK.png Talk/Royal Navy 21:05, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Oh, and Quicksilver means, type "~~~~" after each comment you make here :) - John F Baker Icon-UK.png Talk/Royal Navy 21:07, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
