OCTOBER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

To the wiki community,
Are you looking to get more involved in the wiki? Are you looking to improve your wiki editing, writing, and/or coding skills? Are you looking to pick up some extra gold? Below is a list of tasks and ongoing projects that require help from the wiki community. EREPUBLIK NEEDS YOU!

Input needed

Special Projects

I would like to try this, but I have a problems with finding info about Resistance Wars. Is there any kind of battle log for them as it is for regular wars? (Or am I dumb and can't find it! :() --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 19:03, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Ongoing Projects

I am fighting with them, but help is welcome. :) --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 19:03, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
I've occasionally also worked on these. This project is doing pretty well if we compare the current situation to that of two months ago when we had over 500 "lonely" articles.--Citizen1034012 v2.jpgKuhaa|Talk to me 15:31, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

ahh... i ([foivos1]) am fighting these too very difficult...

Anyone is free to tackle any of these projects. Feel free to ask any questions here. Gold will be paid out to the people that take on the most labor intensive tasks, who put in a lot of work and effort, and who do a THOROUGH job. We can always see what you have done by looking at your user contributions. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 13:34, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Admin/Bot work

I'm back here. I won't stay on the wiki as much as I used to do [I used to check all the RC], but I'm here to help. Anything to do? Maybe something requiring a bot? --Mini "Template" Bill Icon-Italy.png bother me! 11:19, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Welcome back! Apparently, eRepublik Official Wiki:To-do list needs an update. My first suggestion is to check your User:miniBill and User talk:miniBill. If you wish to skip that, just dive into templates: Template:Citizen is still expecting an uber experienced coder to finish it (yeah, the same template started by AgentChieftain), there are walls-of-text ideas in here: eRepublik Official Wiki:Bar/Debate_9. I could continue, but I think that Templates Project is the best idea to be handled now. Let us know if you need help with anything. --Belea2008 00:25, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
Can you remove the "Unused files" with the bot? MiniBill I miss you so much! --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 03:13, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
@Belea: ok, template boy is back on the street. @QJ: I can't remove them, because the bot hasn't got admin power. I can only flag them with {{Deletion}} --Mini "Template" Bill Icon-Italy.png bother me! 09:40, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
@QJ: sweet :) --Mini "Template" Bill Icon-Italy.png bother me! 09:47, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
289 unused files removed. 829 more to go. --Admin 15:51, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
204 unused files removed. 693 more to go. --Admin 16:15, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
401 unused files removed. 341 more to go. --Admin 10:53, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
279 unused files removed. Finished! --Admin 13:36, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
Excellent, now I can spam, I mean update, new files :awesome:. Well done boss. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 13:44, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

Moar! [a.k.a. ideas for LangMenu]

User:MiniBill/Template:LangMenu|eRepublik:Bar

Do you like it? I was missing an easy way to edit new languages, as we had in old LangMenu.--Mini "Template" Bill Icon-Italy.png bother me! 09:05, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

+1 I love it. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 09:26, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

+1So do I. Except, could "Moar!" be on the same line as the last language the page's translated to(in this case "Српски")? --Citizen1034012 v2.jpgKuhaa|Talk to me 12:33, 20 September 2009 (UTC)
Not as I implemented it now. I tried hard to find a way to do that but didn't succeed yet. Open to suggestions. --Mini "Template" Bill Icon-Italy.png bother me! 13:48, 20 September 2009 (UTC)
Cool as long as "More" is spelled right. And you can remove Africaans from the list. We had one article in the language. It doesn't make sense to have it as a choice. So the Africaans was moved to a section on the main page. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 13:13, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
I will remove Africaans just before going live, because you know that adding a language kills. More was voluntary spelled wrong, I had too much 4chan lately :D --Mini "Template" Bill Icon-Italy.png bother me! 11:17, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
+1 Fantastic idea. --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo (his discussion) 14:07, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Namespaces 2

To read:

The namespace Project: does not exist anymore. It was simply merged (by the MediaWiki software) with the eRepublik: namespace. Example: Project:Test is in fact eRepublik Official Wiki:Test. Here's more info: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Namespace#Functionality. I wanted to ask: what do we do about the Contract: and Suggestion: namespaces? --Belea2008 09:14, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Suggestion namespace is not used at all so you can remove it. I would leave Contract namespace so that contracts would have special place on wiki. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 15:50, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
There are so few Contracts here, why bother keeping it? --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 00:52, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
I believe that there are many contracts under main namespace and they should be moved to contract namespace. ;) --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 19:51, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
And also, there are probably ad least 5-10 contracts that are not nowhere + there are probably some contracts valuable for transfer from eRepublik forum. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 08:16, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Preposition for history pages, second edition

Conclusion from your suggestions, especially Belea's I have decided to create completely new suggestion, a little bit more professional and having in mind all of your suggestions. Firstly, I must say that I would crate a template as it would be to big as some of the suggestion parts would not be used always, just if the event happens. More info on my sandbox. Also, you can leave comments on the Sandbox talk page. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 10:59, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

It looks good, very good, but it will be much harder to fill information in from the past. If only eRep used a dating system instead of always saying 2 months ago or 6 months ago. I want to know the exact date, not how long ago it was. I'll give you a hand with updating the history pages as I have time. --Chris Stanwick 14:42, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
I too will try to assist the best I can when I can get myself into it. Btw, in which section would this kind of news go? History/2_February_2009
@ Kuhaa - I believe that personal dates (like birth dates, death dates) are not a part of eRepublik history, so data about citizens birth should not be there.
@ Chris - I know Chris, one of the most terrible things about eRepublik is that it doesn't create dates of the articles and events. I would satisfy with eDate (Day XX of the New World). So, the best thing would be to update the history in 30 days period until the "date" becomes one month ago. Than, we are lost. :( --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 16:05, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
If you need specific dates - as in, example: "this article was written on 6th of November 2009" (and similar), just give me a buzz. --Belea2008 08:12, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
As nobody had some major problems with the idea, I have moved it to History/Template and also added some info to History page. I would like to say: THIS IS ONLY MY IDEA, NOT MY PROPERTY, SO IF YOU HAVE NEW IDEAS HOW TO IMPROVE IT, BRING IT ON. :) --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 10:14, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Adding New Languages

Adding new languages to the Wiki takes time to update the template and it kills the servers with updating pages. From now on, we will not add a new language unless we have a commitment from people to translate the main pages of the wiki. This commitment can be shown by translating some of the Category:Playing the Game articles in the user's sandbox. Discussion? --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 14:15, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

+1 I agree. I already said to Prince Terence that we have to discuss this matter. I believe that at least Main menu and Tutorial (with step links - 9 links for 10 steps) have to be translated that we grant new language. Maybe this is toooo much (size of the articles, especially main menu is big) but that are 11 articles. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 15:08, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
"Adding new languages to the Wiki takes time to update the template and it kills the servers with updating pages." - You have also solution number two, letting the team know when you will do it and them increasing temporarily the Wiki server capacity in order to handle the spike. --Belea2008 16:13, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
Also, I will make a review of all translated articles and try to see which languages have few articles and try to write articles in eRepublik to get new translators. Ad least I hope that I will get good translators. :) --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 15:08, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
Let us know if you need any help! --Belea2008 16:13, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
Andy let me know when you write the articles, I will trackback in my newspapers. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 21:30, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
I'm working for the new spanish index portal, I have a sandbox in User:IVicentico/Sandbox --IVicentico 01:53, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
As I said last month, I believe a good way to start translating pages is to pick main articles from One:MenuV1 Template, translate them and then translate the pages they have links to. It won't take much time if editors translating articles are well organized. Or it takes only one who has lost their mind. Should we set a minimum amount of important articles that must be translated before we add a new language? If adding a new one is such a pain, we need to be sure that there will be articles written in that language. --Citizen1034012 v2.jpgKuhaa|Talk to me 17:14, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
Since I have been very active in translating Serbian pages and advertise it with my newspapers, some people has contacted me about adding Macedonian language to Wiki. I read MiniBill page and this discussion but since Macedonia is not added yet, I'm curious is there a chance to add this language if that person translate main page and add pages to that links from main page. Tell me exactly what I need to tell him regarding that matter. --EternalFlameOfFreedom Flag-Serbia.jpg Speak with me here 11:00, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Review of all translated articles

Ladies and gentlemen, I have completed the first part of reviewing the translated articles - counting the actual number of translated articles. This was to see how many languages are actually used on our wiki. My counting gave this results:

  • Brazilian (Portugues Brasileiro)
    • More than 100
  • Bulgarian (Български)
    • 2 articles - Only 1 article translated completely!!!
  • Chinese (中文(简体))
    • 78 articles (around 10 redirects!)
  • Croatian (Hrvatski)
    • A lot. xD (officially 169 without redirects)
  • Czech/Slovakian (Českoslovenština)
    • 26 articles
  • Estonian (Eesti)
    • 79 articles (around 6 redirects)
  • Finnish (Suomi)
    • Incredible, but officially there are 219 articles without redirects!!!
  • French (Français)
    • 39 articles
  • German (Deutsch)
    • 60 articles (probably 2 redirects!)
  • Greek (Ελληνικά)
    • 63 articles
  • Hungarian (Magyar)
    • 40 articles
  • Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia)
    • 31 articles
  • Iranian (فارسی) s
    • 39 articles
  • Israeli (עברית)
    • Only LangMenu article
  • Italian (Italiano)
    • Around 100 articles
  • Japanese (日本語)
    • 8 articles
  • Latvian (Latviešu)
    • 46 articles
  • Liuthanian (Lietuvių)
    • 3 articles
  • Netherland (Nederlands)
    • 43 articles
  • Norwegian (Norsk)
    • 22 articles
  • Polish (Polski)
    • 116 articles
  • Portugese (Português)
    • 40 articles
  • Romanian (Română)
    • 26 articles
  • Russian (Русский)
    • 111 articles
  • Serbian (Српски)
    • A lot xD (officially 146 without redirects)
  • Spanish (Español)
    • 108 articles
  • South African (Afrikaans)
    • Only LangMenu article
  • South Korean (한글)
    • Only LangMenu article
  • Swedish (Svenska)
    • 22 articles
  • Turkish (Türkçe)
    • 92 articles
  • Ukrainian (Українська)
    • 18 articles

As you can see, only few languages have more than 100 articles translated. All other languages have few articles and should be translated and as I have mentioned, I was planning to post articles (on English) in the countries of these languages (part 2 of this review).
Also, you have probably noticed that I have crossed out some languages. This languages don't have any articles translated, or they have only few (below 5) articles translated and they should be REMOVED from the list of available languages. If one day an translator from this countries arrives, he will have to translate Main Page, Tutorial and few other articles (or whatever rule we will have) so the language would be re-implemented.
I was planning to remove (add) languages next week in some strange time of a day (Europe morning) so the server will be probably offline (Belea will know more). And Yes, I would like to add new languages, so if there are some new translators from non-mentioned countries, please show me your skills by translating articles mentioned in previous section.
Please write any comments, thoughts or remarks. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 19:57, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Wow... AndyCro, good work. And it really shows the dedication of some of our community members who really set their minds to translation.

  • I am all for dropping languages and pages without significant work.
  • I also think we need to rewrite info/create some sort of standards about what it takes to get a language added to the wiki - such as how many pages are needed etc.
  • And another thing, this will be unpopular but I really don't think that we should allow translations into dialects or languages with small populations. For example, Macedonian has 2.3-3 million speakers in the world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macedonian_language I do not want a nationalist debate to move into the wiki by having the wiki translated into various dialects. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 14:28, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
I agree with QJ. National languages are fine, but specific dialects within a nation should be left out. --Chris Stanwick 16:22, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
I agree to what's been said above. It seems we're dropping languages with below 5 translated articles. Should we decide what's a number we'd be willing to accept in the future? Is 20 pages too many? 30? I don't know, I got a little carried away when translating articles to Finnish so maybe I'm not the one to suggest these numbers. But I think at least Main Page(maybe not the big one but maybe like this?), Tutorial, FAQ, My Places, Community, Info, History and Market and few others that the editors would be free to choose should be translated before we even consider adding a new language. Maybe Rules also? It would require lot of work but also show dedication. Translating wiki is fun, but it shouldn't be too easy to get a new language added. I'm sure you got my point. Good job with the list! --Icon-Finland.png Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 19:18, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
First of all, I would like to congratulate AndyCro for gathering this info, and also to bring you one idea for all advertise this wiki. In next few days i will open new topic about this campaign since wiki really needs more auditorium in entire eWorld and bring new editors to fill those empty spaces. As for dialects I agree that it should be avoided. --EternalFlameOfFreedom Flag-Serbia.jpg Speak with me here 12:41, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
Wait a second.... Why are we doing translations into Macedonian? Didn't you read what I wrote? This will open up the wiki to translations in all other sorts of small dialects - Catalan? Galician? All of these have more speakers than Macedonian. languages. If FYROM gets added to eRep, I would reconsider, but there is so much bad blood between the Macedonians and Greeks in the game right now (read their media and the forums), I do not want this shit spilling into the wiki. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 16:24, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Operation Great Justice

Dear editors I need help. I have found on two pages some fishy data about this operation. The only thing that was the same is that involved Pakistan and Romania. I would ask that someone who knows some more info (ad least the correct dates) of this operation that he/she creates a page Operation Great Justice. If some info is TOP SECRET, you do not have to publish it, I am just curious about dates and in fact I would like to know what did this operation achieved. Thank you for your help. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 09:35, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

Here are all the articles (related to it) I could find with a quick search:
You could also send a PM to Victor Petrescu - if it is about Romania and it is a PTO, either he was involved (as leader, in most cases), or he knows everything about it. I think That "Operation Great Justice" refers to the "rise in power" of Han Solo in Pakistan and his "reign". --Belea2008 14:17, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
BELEA THANK YOU!!! I have created an article (I have to say that I WAS NOT IN THIS OPERATION) but I believe that it is not biased and I tried to find as many references as I could. Could you just check the dates of the impeachment laws? Thank you once more. And yes, I have send PM to two people mentioned in section organizers, so I am awaiting the responses. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 22:07, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Either I am completely mad, or I have serious problems with my memory. I have updated dozen articles in last two days and the updates don't exist on wiki. :( What is happening??? --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 09:19, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Most of the contributions from yesterday are corrupted and were removed from the Wiki database. --Belea2008 09:31, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
I lost some things too so did a few others. Oh well, C'est la vie. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 14:18, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
I experienced the same problem. I thought I was losing my mind, especially in its current state. Hopefully the edits I made yesterday aren't erased, I really don't want to have to redo them. --Chris Stanwick 14:44, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
OK, but I would like to ask our Admins that they wrote this down when it happens. I was very angry, I didn't managed to work or train yesterday (erep was down) and plus no contributions on wiki. :( --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 15:14, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
Plus, could you tell us will this happen again? I have stored today's edits in doc files. :S --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 15:14, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
Lost edits as well... really can not get motivated to redo them again....----Hrvat User_talk:Hrvat 09:07, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
It will not happen again. At least, not anytime soon. The main idea behind all of the server change - someone should have thought to lock down the Wiki for editing. Another lesson for me learned the hard way. :( --Belea2008 09:58, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Citizen pages do NOT belong to them

Synopsis:

In short, (now) I'm a strong believer that anyone should BE ABLE to add anything relevant to a citizen page WITHOUT ASKING THAT CITIZEN! --Belea2008 09:22, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

I am in total agreement with this. There is no page ownership in the wiki. That goes for all pages. If someone wanted to add something to my page, as long as it was truthful, spelled correctly, and grammatically correct I would leave it. (So gentlemen, you can now add how wonderful, intelligent, and sexy I am to my citizen page :awesome:)--QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 14:16, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
Belea, did you see these facts Q_J_Lincoln#Fun_Facts??? :awesome: --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 18:30, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
Does this mean I can say anything about QJ and then quote it on her citizen page? Woah! ;O Just kidding, I agree with you people. --Icon-Finland.png Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 19:21, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
Agree. There is no page ownership on Wiki.
...that of course bring us to proper referencing. I'll use my example.
I do not need to say that most of activity is carried out outside of Erepublik....
I am on at least 4 Forums in official capacity this month alone, I was on 6 Chats last month (had to cut it down)... I am one of the 4 organizers of a substantial Paramilitary force in Erepublik, with 10*10 manufacturing and 10*10 land skill fighters (that is 200 ACTIVE fighters, present on their forum regularly). I am able to receive personal chats (from password protected chat rooms). I have screenshots from both PEACE and Atlantis forums. I have refused presidency on 3 occasions, latest one in September 2009. I have made and removed Presidents and will continue to do so. I was involved in a destruction of a country (today's superpower by number of citizens)... Yeah, I know... brag... brag... brag...
TRUE or NOT? people who have worked with me will know the answer...
but the point is... referencing Erepublik activities, when most REAL action takes place OUTSIDE of Erepublik is....*****(please fill in) Only the actual citizen can know his/her involvement and the actual achievements.

I have 5 organizations (my own), and control another X number of military and government ORG's.... AND yet I am a MINOR player in Erepublik.
90% of my activities are done outside of Erepublik site and can not be traced by Erepublik, and yet what I or my follows do may have a major effect on what happens on Erepublik site - sometimes.
I can proclaim myself anything I like, I can make-up any award and give that reward to myself... I can support it with different newspapers - referencing done. I can use Government papers or Military news or any of my own personal Org's to carry out "Awards" or publish made up titles... And that would be nothing new. It has all been done before.
----Hrvat User_talk:Hrvat 02:03, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
By the book, all the events/actions/involvement you said do not count as references. Using common sense, I agree with you. The first example that comes in my mind is the ThisGenMedia page. References were used and are still used using common sense. Which is a good thing.
But I'm talking about BIAS. I rarely get involved in reference/bias discussions (maybe I should get involved more often). Even rarely, I add the Unreferenced notice on a page. In every one of the cases I have followed, discussions and communication were limited by the "Let's wait for the owner of the page to see what she/he has to say." (examples: Aryamehr and Iran pages, Dioism and Pakistan pages, some of the USA's important citizen pages, citizen pages who had/have quarrels with "Admin", etc.).
What I wish? I wish whenever I encounter a page (especially citizen pages) to read information presented in a neutral tone. There are examples where it did not happened constructively:
  • see the communication between Aryamehr and AgentChieftain - the result: Aryamehr's page is empty, Iran's page is only edited by a few Iranian select editors, Dioism's pages are edited mostly by AgentChieftain, Pakistan's page the same
  • see the M. Lewis' talk page - no mention in his page about a complex propaganda movement related to him - Lewisism. Why it happened in this case? Because the editors who wished to add the information did not added in a neutral tone in the first place and because Lewis insisted that he owns the page
  • the majority of persons involved in the MAPW project have started with the idea that they should rely heavily in "owners of pages"
  • Grgo's case: "Grgo entered the game, Grgo disappointed by the government and "Admin", Grgo becomes a pirate (which was so cool), Grgo is permanently suspended. The hero was permanently suspended!" - An editor comes around (in this case, me) and thinks: wait a minute, why is this citizen a "hero"?... all right, he has done a lot of useful and constructive projects, it has helped a lot the eRepublik community (nobody can deny that), but after all he did not respected the eRepublik Laws, after all his account is permanently suspended. Why the whole page is describing him as a "hero". Where's the neutral tone? - Where this discussion stalemated? Here: "but as he was active, did not wish to disturb his work on the page to much."; "he should have been awarded 1 year Free membership to Erepublik. Instead, when his hard earned Gold was stolen and when he complained to Admin, he was told nothing can be done about it. So, he decided to do the same thing.. and was banned for it."; "And if Grgo (a rose by any other name) does not return over next few weeks".
I'm just asking all of us to perceive our biases and try to overcome them. Using arguements like "let's wait for the citizen to see what it has to say" promotes OWNAGE and BIASES. We are all humans. We all have preferences and personal opinions. Let's get it out in the open. Here's one of mine - a discussion in which I have participated with a not 100% neutral opinion: User_talk:AgentChieftain/Sandbox/Censorship_in_Dioism.
--Belea2008 11:08, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
I understand what you are saying, Belea2008. And I agree with you on your BIAS concerns and on page ownership. Having said that, I have a major problem at a "solution" I have seen implemented.
  • My MAIN problem in all this is when someone comes along and places an "Unreferenced" CAT that is pointing to an empty discussion page (no explanation). It is very difficult to "fix" the problem when I do not know what the problem is. EXAMPLE: "Unreferenced" CAT placed on this page on 25th July.... "Unreferenced" is still on this page. I posted in a page discussion a question: What is wrong ?... still no answer. This particular page has more references than most I have seen, including my own. It was biased, but than most pages written by people about themselves will be perceived to be biased to some extent. (I patrol hundreds of pages, and MOST people will RE-edit their pages to more neutral, after the events have faded...)
  • I also acknowledge that there is massive (ab)use in writing a BIASED pages by some editors. That problem needs to be addressed. UNREFERENCED CAT is no solution, as most editors can provide ANY "proof" to support any claim (as I stated in earlier post). Perhaps BIASED would be more appropriate, as it may??? cover "questionable" references.
  • Again, there is no page ownership on Wiki. If page does not meet the standards it needs to be edited. (I still feel that the actual CITIZEN has the best knowledge of his own achievements, and should be given a chance to bring it up to standard - perhaps with guidance of more experienced editors.)
And I'll repeat myself, inexperienced editors with poor knowledge of English (especially after they have been Banned) should be given an assistance on HOW to improve their work. Adding an "Unreferenced" CAT to the page with NO explanation is NO help to the Editor in question: and it does NOT help me to FIX the problem - as I can not read other peoples minds. In my attempt to "fix" the lack of referencing, I may be able to provide references that will make that page even more biased in its content.
I hope this will be accepted in a positive way. ----Hrvat User_talk:Hrvat 02:14, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Corrupt image?

Hey. I uploaded a new image for the map of Scotland, after reading in the UK forums a topic about the Isle of Man (wrongly attributed to Scotland). The image displays ok on the page itself but it is replaced by an error code on all the pages that reference it. See the Scotland page for an example.

Message:

Error creating thumbnail: /var/www/web12/web/bin/ulimit4.sh: line 4: /usr/bin/convert: No such file or directory

Thanks.

Cemetery - an answer for Lonely articles, or a crazy idea?

OK, again me and ideas. Great number of lonely articles (ad least this last 270) is in fact deceased Citizen articles. And the thing is that this Citizens lived quite boring life until they died or were banned. So, I have an idea. To create a section Cemetery on region pages and list the people who died there, whether the natural causes or "by banning". So what do you think? --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Click here to talk with me baby! ;) 21:08, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Actually some of these can be solved by linking the citizen page to the game or to the user's wiki account. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 21:50, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
I'll have to brush up on my terminology on Wiki. Lonely articles? Are we referring to "Orphaned pages". There is similar/same problem there. Problem is that most of "Orphaned pages" are already linked TO the game and Wiki, but NOTHING links back to them. I have done a small amount of work on these pages and finding way of having another page link to an "orphaned page" can be a long (and sometimes futile) process. ----Hrvat User_talk:Hrvat 02:33, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
I have linked few dozens of user pages to the citizen pages, that decreased the list of LONELY pages. (On Croatian for Hrvat: Nemoj mi reći da i ti koristiš hrvatski jezik na wikiju jer iz nekog čudnog razloga je netko lonely preveo sa, citiram, Stranice siročad)
The solution to decrease the lonely pages by creating redirects from Citizen:Name to Name is even stranger than creating a link on User:Name to Name. We should try to find something for everyone. Or are we going to limit the citizen pages here because some citizen articles have only. He was born on XX. He was a citizen of Croatia (example). His death was discovered on XX. And of course, the article was created by a friend. What to do with this articles?
"(On Croatian for Hrvat: Nemoj mi reći da i ti koristiš hrvatski jezik na wikiju jer iz nekog čudnog razloga je netko lonely preveo sa, citiram, Stranice siročad) " LOL... That was not me. English is my first preference language, I'll translate Croatian pages if I must, but I do not translate Official Wiki into croatian/serbian etc...----Hrvat User_talk:Hrvat 02:51, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

OK, this looks like a bad joke or is someone stupid?

I think for myself that I am quite smart, but this I can't understand, so please help me:

Nina Ayu is admitting to have multi-accounts?!?!?!?!?! I assume that only Admin can check this, so Admin, please help me so I can return Nina Ayu page to the last normal edit and remove all data about Nina Ayu from Marie54 article. I've seen these pages only yesterday and decided to leave them alone... As far as I could work it out they are sisters (maybe)... BUT... only someone with Admin power/access can say for certain.----Hrvat User_talk:Hrvat 02:56, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
Restored Nina Ayu page. It still needs a lot of work in order to become a high quality page.
Deleted Marie54 page. Could someone please send a "warning" to Nina in her user talk page.
Thanks in advance! Tell me if you need my help with anything else! --Belea2008 08:08, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Creating a government page/template

As most eRepublik players will know almost every country has a government structure which is not exactly replicated by the in game mechanics. For example, only the President can attack a country but most countries have a military structure with leaders organising and issuing commands to large numbers of troops. Most countries have a bank outside of the main country accounts with someone looking after that (a minister of finance). Ministers of Foreign Affairs travel the world making diplomatic relations. Is the wiki always going to view these as something external to the game, or will there be a sort of "half way house" where they are officially categorised. Being new to anything but slapping my user page on, I am totally lost with it all. Is this what the Portals are supposed to be for? --Reclusive Monkey 16:23, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Since every government is different, we do have some basic government positions and descriptions. See Category:Jobs --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 14:15, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
Also, see this template: http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Scrabman#Presidency - it was created by User:Chris Stanwick. Maybe you two can collaborate on it! --Belea2008 15:05, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
The template I created for a president's cabinet is useful on a president's wiki page, but from what I understand in Reclusive Monkey's post, he is looking to create something more along the lines of Ireland/Government_Structure, which I created specifically for Ireland. It details every position in the government and is nation specific. --Chris Stanwick 16:17, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the input everyone, that is very helpful. I will take a look at those links.--Reclusive Monkey 18:11, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Proposing major tutorial edits

Tutorial

It's pretty colorful at the moment but I believe it could use a lot of work. There's plenty of information that's being left out, e.g. how to avoid job traps, how to use a hospital properly:

  • How to use a hospital and end up at 90+ wellness
  • How to find the hospital (in the first place)

...how to fight in the correct location (avoiding distractions), how to not get bored, how to conserve your citizen fee, what certain words mean, etc... etc...

The tutorial is arguably the most important article here. There are already a lot of guides for new players in the media, we'll just have to go and collect the best ones or write our own.

  • I'm also unsure of how to go about this without ruining the colorfulness.

--VSkyzv 00:25, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Take into account also the FAQ, please! Also, I think the page should be left as it is and create a new eRepublik Tutorial from scratch with steps, similar to eRepublik:Citizen Page Tutorial. What do you think? --Belea2008 01:02, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
I understand what you mean, we have some user guides, that might fulfill what you are asking for. Category:Guides. Many country forums have their own guides. I think we might want to start pulling some of these game help items into a more comprehensive guide. I think the best are the Indian Tutorials. I suggest working with some of the people that have created these guides and coming up with a comprehensive player guide that can be linked on the tutorial page. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 01:06, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
The FAQ is a bit of a tl;dr, and we could really use a new player-friendly guide. Tabs for guides is a pretty good idea though. --VSkyzv 01:14, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
"tl:dr"? That's why we have the Contents menu on the right hand side of that page. ;) I think the Tutorial should be left as it is now, because isn't it supposed to explain the "10 in the New World", which it does? With that and FAQ the new players are given fairly good amount of information to start playing with(and if they can't be bothered to read... Well, who's the one to blame? :D ). I also think half the fun was to learn certain things while playing, and not all the information should be handed out on a silver plate. But I have nothing against yet another guide being implemented if you feel there's a need for such. If you do, I'll translate the new guide to Finnish for sure. :D--Icon-Finland.png Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 20:23, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
I was looking for a brief step-by-step guide, not a long list of questions. I don't think we should be forcing players to look at the FAQ for all their questions, since they have plenty of questions already. I was thinking of creating a new format for the tutorial, but now since that everybody has decided against that, I'll work around it. --VSkyzv 00:55, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
"I was thinking of creating a new format for the tutorial, but now since that everybody has decided against that..."
Nobody decided against it. Some of us just want to see what you have in mind exactly. Like a tabbed tutorial or how your idea looks "on paper". Let's start it in your userspace and we'll go forward from there.
Also, please tell us with what do you need our help exactly...
Also, I agree that the current Tutorial is very basic and the FAQ is very long.
--Belea2008 10:01, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Remember also that Wiki isn't the only source of information. As said above, most countries have their own forums with guides, and IRC-channels where there are lot of people ready to answer questions. This isn't that hard game. --Icon-Finland.png Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 06:15, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Here's something to start with: a very good newbie tutorial - http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/help-for-new-players-v6-996840/1/20 --Belea2008 16:08, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Country stats

As you must be aware, the Info tab on the main menu has changed a little. All stat pages were merged to one page Country stats. I created that page so we have something to start building a page from, but I'm a little unsure how to proceed. Here's a few suggestions:

  • As expressions such as Social stats or Military stats, we should move these pages under following names:
    • Social stats -> Society
    • Economic stats -> Economy
    • Politic stats -> Politics
    • Military stats -> Military
  • As clicking Country stats in-game opens Society-tab, I think we should move it's information to Country stats and redirect Socials stats and Society to page Country stats. I think redirects are better solutions than changing link names, as these pages must be linked in quite a many articles.
  • Tree structure on Main Page, and page Info need to be updated.

Please discuss and share ideas how this situation should be handled.--Icon-Finland.png Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 18:57, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

I really really really hate it when eRepublik changes things and don't give us a heads up. Are we the official information center of this fxxxxxx game or not? We shouldn't have to say... "hay guys, I noticed this...." and then make changes a WEEK after it happened. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 19:42, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
I have raised this issue to the one in charge (the fact that we are rolling out changes which is not known by the community). :(
Regarding the actual change, I thank Kuhaa for pointing it out. I propose to make it tabbed. What do you think?
--Belea2008 15:58, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
Tabs sound like a good idea. I guess I'll leave this in your hands now, because creating tabs from a scratch is beyond my skills and I'd probably end up breaking something. What about pages' names? I don't think we can stay with these current "X stats" and "Y stats", so we'll still have to move those page. After implementing tabs, should we just fix links leading to current pages? Here's a list of pages we'd have to edit: Social stats, Economic stats, Politic stats and Military stats. What about Country administration? It can be found both both from Country stats and My Places so how should it be treated?--Icon-Finland.png Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 18:55, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
By "tabs", I was trying to propose the creation of a navigational template - like this one: Template:ProductsNavigation/Core. What do you think?
About fixing links, just move the pages and I'll make sure that "Admin" does the "boring" task of fixing the links.
About Country Administration and Country administration, I consider that these pages should not exist and the page should be called "Administration".
--Belea2008 09:56, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
The problem with Country administration is that it's called Country administration in "My Places" and just Administration in "Country stats". Navigation box sounds like a good idea. Would this do the job?
Country stats

Society · Economy · Politics · Military · Administration

I also suggest we keep pages Country stats and Society separated although "Society" is the tab that opens when you click Country stats. If there's no objections, I'll make a template and move these the four pages under the names listed in my first message. --Icon-Finland.png Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 17:05, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

+1 Well done. Go for it! --Belea2008 12:16, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
I knew I had to mess something up. :/ While moving the pages, I forgot to move all the subpages, so the translated pages remain under the wrong name. I tried to revert the moving so I could move them back with subpages but it didn't work. So now somebody will have to delete pages Social stats, Economic stats, Politic stats and Military stats so pages Society, Economy, Politics and Military can be moved back and forth. Once again I am truly embarrassed and sorry for all the trouble I caused. It would be nice if this would be done asap. :) --Icon-Finland.png Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 13:40, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
"Social stats, Economic stats, Politic stats and Military stats" deleted. --Admin 14:57, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
Moving back and forth finished. Let us know if you require further assistance. --Admin 15:04, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
Thank you! Now what needs to be done is fixing all the links leading to these pages. Also, page Info and Main menu need to be updated on translated languages as well as Main Page's tree structure. I already did this on English pages but there's still much to be done. I will be fixing all the red links but I can't do it alone as I'm running for president and will be busy for the following week(and the following month if I get elected).--Icon-Finland.png Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 17:15, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
All the Infos and Main menus have been updated to match the current Info menu. Many of them were horribly outdated so I did a few other edits than just the stat pages as well. I'll now take time to fix Finnish pages.--Icon-Finland.png Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 19:22, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
Kuhaa, whenever you do not have time to deal with a page which is outdated, yet you stumble upon it; you can tag it with the Template:Urgent. It puts them in a category and it tells the reader that the page is outdated. Me busy also in the following 2 weeks. --Belea2008 00:22, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
Oh yes, I had completely forgotten about that template. Oh well, I decided to go the extra mile and now most of the pages are fixed. Actually, there are only the translations for pages Society, Economy, Politics and Military left. And also Bar and few sandboxes but I don't see them as an issue. Funny thing is that "what links here"-pages still claim that some Main Pages have links leading to these pages, but I couldn't find any. Must be due to the "tree structures", though I already fixed those. Only things that bother me are Portal:Main_Page/Punong_Katayuan and Main_Page/Filipino. Are we adding Filipino or should those be in someone's sandbox?--Icon-Finland.png Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 13:27, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
Sandbox.. as well as the page someone started for macedonian. All new langauge pages should be done in a sandbox until the required amount of pages have been created for the language to be added. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 14:24, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
I now feel comfortable to declare this "case" closed.--Icon-Finland.png Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 11:10, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
