Talk:IRC Tutorial

Would it be ok to create a tutorial page on how to connect to IRC and include a link to the irc channels in it? I think this page would be useful for teaching how to use IRC clients and getting to the right place! --Ashot: We are what we repeatedly do “Excellence”, then, is not an act but a habit. 06:42, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Be bold and feedback

  1. Too long... Wall of text! :D
  2. Some sections are not needed - Brief History of IRC, IRC Client (a mentioning in a phrase of the 5 most common modern IRC clients is enough), Basic IRC Commands (a link to a short list of common commands and a link to a full comprehensive list of IRC commands would be more useful), Helpful Tips (my opinion is that is too long)
  3. I'm thinking the following structure
- what is IRC (already there)
- the connection with the New World (why citizen chose to create community IRC channels)
- how to connect to one of them (with the link to the full list page of "IRC Channels" related to eRepublik)
- other links

Just my 2 eurocents! --Geo "Talk Pages" Belea 08:54, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Would it be better to rename this into IRC tutorial and create something shorter for this section? A structure that you suggest perhaps? --Ashot: We are what we repeatedly do “Excellence”, then, is not an act but a habit. 09:11, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

other chats

What about other chats? this article is elitist. there are many other chat systems that often ecitizens use to communicate. IRC article needs to include some kind of warning. it's a source of trojans and viruses. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anarquia (talkcontribs) 11:54, February 17, 2009

What about other chats? this article is elitist. there are many other chat systems that often ecitizens use to communicate. IRC article needs to include some kind of warning. it's a source of trojans and viruses. it also needs to include a part to explain that irc was not created by erepublik and that they have nothing to do with it. and for last it needs a parental advice since there are erepublik players with less then 18 years old. Note also that some irc networks have their own policies and terms of service. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anarquia (talkcontribs) 11:57, February 17, 2009

Well IRC is what is commonly used by eCountries on eREpublik and this is simply an addition to the IRC Channels page.--~✭βƓЪ✭~ 11:20, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
And what about other chats? Do the chat systems you mention that often ecitizens use to communicate have anything to do with IRC? For the parental advice you mention please look at the CAUTION notice in the very first paragraph of the article. It is obvious that IRC is not created by eRepublik because it is stated in the brief history who created it and the purpose of it. I understand many of you are concerned about the wall of text, but people really do need this wall of text. I for one don't want to go around to 5 different articles to understand a general concept of one matter that I am interested in. The IRC section describes in detail what it is, what the purpose of it is, how to use it and more. I have seen many articles ingame which describe how to's for IRC, sure we can put links all over the wiki article sending the ecitizens right out of wiki, but what's the purpose of that if it could be done in the forums? Personally, when I hear the name wiki I think of a detailed information about the information I am researching for, not a page where I got yet another link to follow. I would understand wall of text if I didn't have the contents bar and everything was just dumped there, but there is a content bar and people who need to read just one section they go to the section. Now my statement here is what I call a wall of text, sorry for the long explanation but I felt it is necessary to be written! I will include a warning in the DCC section about the trojans and other viruses! Thanks for the replies. --Ashot: We are what we repeatedly do “Excellence”, then, is not an act but a habit. 00:51, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

"Do the chat systems you mention that often ecitizens use to communicate have anything to do with IRC?" yes often they use and don't have anything to do with irc. I'm not concerned about walls of text. more information it's better. There's also the problem that everyone can crate and claim a official country channel. I can right now create one channel per country and claim them officially and edit the irc channels list in the wiki. because they are all official. also I can ban and exclude and do everything I want in irc. we need to clarify this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anarquia (talkcontribs) 14:39, 18 February 2009

don't you think it is being monitored and as soon as you change it someone will come right back and change it back? eventually it will be caught up with and might get the wiki account banned. How hard is it to go to the certain country and ask anyone in the administration what their irc channel is, besides the irc channel is also listed in their forums, therefore it could easily be checked and tracked. No one can claim an official irc channel if it is not being used by the country administration, you think people are just going to join the new said channel because someone says so? they usually start with the forums, then they jump to the irc, I don't think it's a huge problem. Any other concerns are welcome! --Ashot: We are what we repeatedly do “Excellence”, then, is not an act but a habit. 02:29, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
