Militant atheism is a term for a person who not only does not believe in God, but is also hostile toward religion.

Many theists may use this term as an insult; though many atheists refer to themselves this way and don't find it offensive.

Many argue that calling an atheist militant is unwarranted, since it suggests a physical dispatch against religion. To most atheists who use the term to refer to themselves, they simply mean that they do not have second thoughts when denouncing religion, would prefer to see no religion on earth, and that no respect or taboo is earned by a belief in the super natural.

Brian Boru is an example of a person who refers to himself as a militant atheist.
