Southern Thailand is an original region of Thailand.
Malaysia and Thailand merged on August 3, 2009 to be unofficially called the Federal Republic of South East Asia, from then was Thailand under Malaysian government. The region has since returned to Thailand. The capital city of the region is Hat Yai. The region is currently being held by Indonesia.
