Unique Irish Terminology

Like many other countries, the Irish community has renamed the generic institutions of eRepublik to reflect the individual culture and community of Ireland.

eRepublik Terminology Irish Terminology Short Description
Government Oireachtas The government of Ireland which includes the Taoiseach, Ministries, and Dáil.
Country President Taoiseach The elected Head of State for Ireland.
Congress (of Ireland) Dáil (Éireann) Elected regional representatives who vote on and set forward proposals.

The Structure of the Government of Ireland consists of the various departments whose ministers serve in the Cabinet and advise the Taoiseach on the affairs of state. Ireland has had many departments of government, some of which are constant and some which are short lived. The naming conventions of the Irish departments have not been constant, resulting in a number of seemingly different departments that fulfill the same or similar functions.

An Taoiseach

The chief executive of the Irish government, the Taoiseach is the only elected executive official in the Cabinet. The Taoiseach performs the duties as granted in-game, such as proposing changes to the new citizen message, purchasing and placing hospitals and defense systems, proposing military protection pacts with other nations, declaring war and proposing peace, and imposing trade embargoes. Outside of game mechanics, the Taoiseach represents the continuity and legitimacy of the government of Ireland. As such, the Taoiseach is the commander in chief of the military and establishes the nation's foreign policy.

An Tanaiste

The deputy to the Taoiseach, the Tanaiste is a primarily ceremonial or honorary position. The Tanaiste can fill in for the Taoiseach during absences, but does not assume the same powers. A Taoiseach does not have to appoint a Tanaiste, but most choose to do so.

Department of Foreign Affairs

Originating in V1 as the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, it quickly reverted to just Foreign Affairs in November 2008 during 5n4keyes's second administration.
