The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is the government department responsible for implementation of government defence policy and is the headquarters of the British Armed Forces.

History

The Ministry of Defence is one of the most important cabinet posts within the UK. The Ministry of Defence has gone by several names, such as Ministry of War, and has been combined with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under two different administrations.

Duties

  • The minister of Defence is in charge of the armies of the UK.
  • The minister will need to communicate with the officers to give detailed reports to congress on the readiness of all units of the military.
  • The minister will need to fund and maintain all units.
  • The minister must attend all talks on military intelligence and be available for talks on future MPP’s.
  • The minister must have an active knowledge of the UK military and our current relations with other countries.
  • The minister will regularily update and maintain the newspaper MoD News.

The professional heads of the four branches of the British Armed Forces act as principle military advisors to the de facto Chiefs of the Defence Staff, the current Minister(s) of Defence.
