The Royal Guard was the main territorial fighting force of the United Kingdom and was overseen by the Ministry of Defence. It was formed from the Reserves alongside the Royal Navy in December of 2008, shortly before Operation French Toast.
It had relatively low entry requirements, consisting of 5 Strength and British citizenship. It was designed to act as a slow reaction, massed damage defence force for the UK, and therefore sees little to no foreign deployment.
The majority of its members were kept to the UK's regions for political or economic reasons and therefore could not move. However, there are also many that had the opportunity to experience other mobile forces, but chose to stay.
Royal Marines Deployment Force
Under Brigadier Horice P Fossil's initiative, a Royal Marine deployable force of roughly 20 men was organized, which would allow Royal Guard members to deploy abroad for limited periods of time, for combat.
Future of British Territorial Forces
After the deconstruction of the Royal Guard in mid-2009, there was a lack of any territorial branch of the UK Armed Forces. A Royal Navy vessel, the HMS Westminster was commissioned for use by land-locked congressmen and politicians, but was later re-used as a general combat ship.
In September 2010, the British Army Reserve branch was set up, overseen and decided upon by Field Marshal George Norfolk, the then Chief of the General Staff. It was the Territorial Armed Force of the British Army.
