The Dharma Initiative is a political party in the United Kingdom which was founded on 16 July 2011. It is currently the newest and fastest growing party in the country. The party was founded by Stefan1992 after the Unity Party split due to a conflict of interest. The Dharma Initiative prides itself in the creation of a democratic system in which all members can share their voice, no matter who they are or how active they are.

Policies

The Dharma Initiative is currently in the process of holding several referendums on current events. Over the next few weeks, the party will have official stances on several issues. Polls in the past have included elections such as who to back for Prime Minister, and also including foreign affairs, such as the UK's alliances and Ireland. According to the party page, the party "strives for justice, equality, social harmony and the rights of all people."

History

July 2011

On 16th July, the Dharma Initiative was founded. Originally ranked the 11th largest party, it has already jumped to become the 8th largest. Its democratic system was implemented on the same day it was founded. The next day, the Orientation project started, which consists of many guides and tutorials on eRepublik. Other plans are currently in the works which will help improve democratic matters and the wellbeing of the citizens of the country.

August 2011

The Orientation project was completed, making the Dharma Initiative the first political party to provide a set of guides (note that the guides are neutral, and not partisan). A month after the party was created, membership had doubled. Stefan1992 ran for re-election, stating that while the party has gone far over the last month, there is still a long way to go. However, a few hours before elections began, temujin94 of The Unity Party joined the party and ran for PP in a PTO attempt. Despite TUP's attempt at a PTO, the members of DI managed to hold back the attack.

September 2011

Due to real life issues, Stefan1992 became less active, resulting in a stagnant period for the party.

October 2011

Again, real life became a major time constrait, with Stefan's focus on univeristy and protesting. He took some time off, and the Party Presidency went to Willez97. An unknown event prevented the new party president from taking action, causing a decline in party membership.

November 2011

After several months of inactivity, Stefan1992 returned to the Party Presidency (despite another failed PTO), promising a new era for the party. A more concentrated focus on the problems of inequality in both real life and in the eUK provided a newer platform for the party to take action on, including the reintroduction of the democratic voting system.

December 2011

The party doubled in size during Stefan's return to the Party Presidency. He was reelected for a second consecutive term, promising more activity with less real life commitments. The Dharma Cafeteria opened this month, providing the poorest and newest citizens access to much needed food. This came at a much needed time, as the eUK was in the middle of three wars. There was a temporary setback when the Unity Party attacked this programme, but despite the malicious attack, the Dharma Cafeteria has proven to be successful, serving dozens of people. The year ended with membership at 21, the highest in its history.

Programmes

The Dharma Initiative is in the process of creating several programmes in order to create a stronger society.

Voting System

Members of the Dharma Initiative can get involved in decision making, regardless of how active they are. From time to time, polls are held in which all members are given the opportunity to express their opinions on a variety of topics. DI is the only political party to do this, as they believe providing democracy for all is essential for creating a strong society.

Orientation

Orienation is a nonpartisan set of guides created by DI in order to promote education to new players. There are currently 10 topics to choose from. A channel on IRC is set up which is called #Orientation if someone seeks advice directly from someone.

Dharma Cafeteria

Dharma Cafeteria is a project which provides food to new players and those in need. The scheme provides 200 health worth of food (a £75 value) to those between level 1 - 20. The programme began in late December 2011.

Politics

Due to this party being very new, it is not currently a major force in UK politics.

Congress Members

Since the Dharma Initiative is not in the top 5 political parties, it currently does not have anyone in Congress.
