New Player FAQs

Is this game right for me?

Being a new player you will have this question to ask yourself. Am I right to play this game, is it what I want? eRepublik is a rare type of game that allows the players control every aspect of the game. There are militaries, governments, political parties, jobs and even religions. A game that teaches the unlimited possibilities, you just have to work for it. There are a few things, though, that you’ll need to know before you become the next Congressman, Military Commander or Billionaire.

What is the energy system?

Everything that is done is required energy to be done, also known as health. Energy is automatically recovered, it requires food to refill and will refill by your energy recovery amount every 6 minutes. To get food you either buy it from the market or have a company that makes food. There are also programs set up in the eUK that provide free food to new players.

What is Money and Gold Good For?

Money is needed to get weapons, food and anything else you need. This is of course the smaller scale in part of this giant economy system. You can get money from many ways. Ways such as getting a job or running a business. Governments need money to run countries, run departments and fund campaigns against other countries. They gather money mainly by taxes or donations. Most militaries have a salary they pay their soldiers and must have money to keep their soldiers supplied so that they may do the most damage possible. Militaries get money from the government, donations and/or by companies sponsoring them.

There are tons of different currencies, each country has one. So when buying or selling from a different country keeps in mind the exchange rate of the two currencies. One currency that everyone has though is gold. Gold is very important. It is worth a lot of money and you can use it by selling to make giant returns in your own currency or you can use it to train up or upgrade companies or buy certain items. It is strongly recommended that you don’t really use it to train though.

What are Military Groups?

These are groups in which people join and fight as a unified force. Usually they will have companies you have to work for that create supplies. Soldiers usually aren't paid very well but what they lack in trade they get in supplies. Military groups give food and weapons to their soldiers so that they can make a bigger impact on the battlefield than fighting with their hands. This is a good way for many people new to the game to become apart of.

Fighting is a big part of the game. There are two things that make a strong country, a strong political system and a strong military. There are a number of military groups that you can join or you can even create your own. Usually a country has an official military that you can join. To join the eUK Military, click here. If you do not want to join an official military you can still go out there and fight for your country. You will have to be independent and buy your own equipment. If you do decide to do this I suggest you check out the Ministry of Defense Orders before attacking so you can be the most effective.

The War System, How Does it Work?

Rank is important if you decide a life of fighting. Every time you rank up you get a 5% influence bonus and an energy bar that fully heals you. The highest rank ever achieved is God of War. Strength and weapons determines how much influence you’ll have in a fight when you defeat an enemy. You get strength by training. Now back to influence, to win a battle you and your comrades must reach 1800 points before the enemy does or if time runs out and your influence bar is more than thiers. You must repeat that 8 times to secure a location.

Starting a war is the government’s job. They can only start a war that their country borders on. So like the United Kingdom can’t start a war in North West Croatia because we don’t boarder it. But say if we are allies with Hungary and the started a war in North West Croatia, eUK players will be able to fight because of our allies. Another way is if a country is taken over by a government and the people do not like it, well they can come up with funds to start a resistant war. If planned poorly though, resistant war will often fail but if done right and you win, the original owner of that land gains it back.

What Are Political Parties?

Political parties are important because they are the back bone of the country. They are filled with like mided people who have various visions on how to improve the country. Every month there is an election for congress, who's job it is to propose and vote on things from donations to declarations of war. In order to run for congress you need to be part of a political party in the top 5. Political parties usually have a wiki page on them that you can check out or a Discord channel that you can locate to see their views.

What Are Newspaper For?

Being a journalist opens many doors. A good politician is able to communicate with the world through his newspaper, interviews are done to share with the public, updates with world events are published and even funnies. You can create a newspaper by going to your citizen page and click publish newspaper. It cost a modest few to start but afterward it is free to use. There are organizations that recognize journalist and gathering enough viewers can get you achievement trophies. It is a great tool for the creative mind.

What Does it Take to Run a Business?

Businesses are hard to run; you need to have a budget, keep your workers working, be competitive but still try to make a profit, etc. An object of the business owner is organization and planning. He must know how much supplies he needs and plan accordingly on how much he will have to sell and keep an eye on the prices on where to sell at as well as what to sell. They also have to pay attention to the event of the world because if they sell to a country that is embargoed by either our country or an allied country repercussions should be expected.

Guide to Writing a Newspaper

A lot of things of the New World are scary or confusing to a new citizen and tend to change quite a bit, usually for the worse. What is the most consistent of the game mechanics in eRepublik is the media module. All news is created by us for us, and anyone with 2 gold spare to create a newspaper can make an article. However, if you want the media to be your claim to fame, you'll need more than a witty satirical piece or the ability to buy votes for your articles. You'll need to have:

BBCode Skills

You need to know BBCode. eRepublik BBCode is just like normal BBCode, but worse.

Luckily you only need to know the basics, but a simple bit of bold or italics can really make the world of difference. A bit of editing in all the right places and it can make it so that your article doesn't look so plain.

Setting up your Newspaper

Newspapers cost the small sum of 2 gold to start, and after that, it's completely free to operate. You can find the "Create Newspaper" link on your profile, under your workplace and party. Don't worry about the details. After you create it, you can change the name and description by clicking "edit newspaper details" on your newspaper page or any of your articles. If you want to publish an article then it'll be released in what ever country you're in at the time, so be sure to make sure you're in the right place if you're moving all over the eGlobe! Worldly Knowledge

Some good things to think of before you publish:

- Proofread Use the preview button to check your formatting, and make sure to search for bad spelling, poor grammar or or anything inbetween. Yes, it can be annoying, but it'll save your comments being flooded with "LOL LRN2SPELL AND WHAT NOT". If you don't trust your own eyes or are lazy, edit an old article to show off your work in progress to another eRepublikan.

- Don't write your article in eRepublik If you don't plan on wrapping up your article in minutes, make sure you write in Notepad or a word processing program. Just a few minutes of inactivity in eRepublik will cause your login session to expire. When that happens, your publish button will send you to the homepage instead of media and you'll have to rewrite your entire article all over again. I'd recommend using Word, computers these days get a free version of it pre-installed and the auto checker is worth it's weight in gold to any budding author!

- Test your links Some links will be replaced with an "unauthorized link" url by eRepublik, breaking it. No one why knows why this happens, so you need to test them all, including your article's. If your new article's link is "unauthorized", change the title to something else, and it should be fixed. If all else fails, use a link shortener.

- Prepare for negative feedback Like anything on the internet, articles are very public and will attract the trolls of eRepublik to you. If someone has decided to target you, brush it off. Listen to praise and constructive criticism only and you will retain your sanity and that goes for anything. At the moment there's a lot of talk on how bias something is, and how what you've written is irrelvent because of that. If it really is bias and that wasn't your intention, learn from it. Otherwise just keep it in the back of your mind that there are people who'll always call articles good or bad depending on party affiliation, so be sure to question all feedback, good and bad, to help you improve in the future.

- Watch your images eRepublik limits images to 750px width. If your picture is bigger than that, make sure you link it so people can click it to enlarge as eRepublik will automatically shrink it. Also, nothing too naked (if you can help it).

- Break up things Use images or bars to break up your text. No one likes reading a giant block of text, like the one I'm making right now and it always helps to throw a splash of colour into something that is typically black and white.

- A Niche

A writing niche is an aspect of writing that fits you. It's something you love to do, that you're interested in, that you can do well, and something that appeals to a base of players. Some people like war reporting, some like educational writing, and some people like trolling. All of these have audiences that you appeal differently to.
