eBelgium was in the midst of war when Viridi joined the game. The war, which is sometimes referred to as the Dutch War of Aggression or the War of the Beers, was a conflict fought between Belgium and the Netherlands in March 2014. The events surrounding the war proved to be an interesting time for Belgium who at that point tried to maintain neutrality and avoid being involved in wars, especially the ones between Terra/EDEN and ONE.
Politics
Congress
Viridi started his career in politics when he first ran for congress in April 2012, a mere month after he had joined the game. He joined The Om party and ran under their banner as a result of becoming friends with GoopyPants - the party president and former country president. Many proposals and laws were reviewed by congress during April, and by the end of the term Viridi had voted on many bills, such as voting to increase the Citizen Pack programme, voting for the subsidy to encourage eBelgians to use the PULSE programme, and voting against the Boost Tax Programme.
Viridi ran for a second term in congress in July 2012. Very few laws were passed by congress this month; however, a new immigration system was set up, the PULSE subsidy was annulled, and new justices for the Belgian Supreme Court were elected by congress.
Minister of Home Affairs
When in August 2012 Requiem Domine was elected the President of Belgium, Viridi became the Minister of Home Affairs. Viridi had not previously served as a minister, nor in the MoHA department. During the term, Viridi hosted the 4th BoDi which saw the public voting for their favourite citizen in nine different aspects of eRepublik. Additionally, the ministry began messaging all new citizens to Belgium in an attempt to help new players learn how to play the game, as well as increase the likelihood of their retention into the game.
In September 2012, Viridi continued his role as Minister of Home Affairs under the government of Nohjis, and as a result, much of the work done in the previous month continued into September.
