The position of the Speaker of the House is a Government Position in United Kingdom. This position is restricted to Current Member of Parliament.

Nominations

Traditionally electing the new Speaker of the House of Commons has been handled by the exiting Speaker who requests nominations from the Party presidents who chose one of their candidates for the Parliament.
