History
Predecessors
The party was originally named Austro-German National Democratic Party by Charels McCoy, and then was renamed to the Social Libertarian Party. In the June congressional elections, the Social-Libertarian Party fielded candidates for the first time. Three candidates were successful. The party continued to struggle both for leadership and success, missing out on the July congressional elections.
Austrian Independence Party
On August 18th, Travis James officially became the party president after having been elected 3 days prior. With the support of most in the party, he renamed it to the Austrian Independence Party. The new focus was on setting a more independent Austrian course in foreign policy, in opposition to both Great War of 2009 and Austrian involvement within it. The party also supports the idea of peace being signed with the United States, as well as Austria abstaining from activities carried out by PEACE Global Community which violate their initial mission of being a defensive alliance.
August Elections
The party grew to 14 members by August 25th, and qualified for participating in the August congressional elections. Fielding 7 candidates, 6 went on to win their seat, including party leader Travis James.
September Elections
The party had grown to over 30 members by September 25th and became the third largest party in Austria. Fielding 21 candidates the party went on to win 16 seats in the congress. This gave the party its greatest share of power to date with 40% of the congress. However, a substantial number of the newly elected congressmen left the party shortly after the election to form the "Burgenlandische Partei", a self-described Austrian Croat party known as the "Bundnis Zukunft Osterreich".
October Presidential Elections
The party fielded its first candidate for president of Austria on 5 October 2009. Leading a coalition of five Austrian parties, which included Rot Weiss Rot, The People's Socialist Party, Bundnis Zukunft Osterreich, and The Freedom Party of Austria, the party went on to secure the presidency of Austria. Rangeley, the party candidate for the presidency won a victory against the former 3 time president, Metallon, supported by the Illuminus Austria Party.
