NOVEMBER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

To the wiki community,
Are you looking to get more involved in the wiki? Are you looking to improve your wiki editing, writing, and/or coding skills? Are you looking to pick up some extra gold? Below is a list of tasks and ongoing projects that require help from the wiki community. EREPUBLIK NEEDS YOU!

Input needed

• Need thoughts about template redesign and people with the energy and know how that are willing to refurbish templates for the entire wiki, see eRepublik:Bar/Debate 9
• Identify more Sysops

Special Projects

• Work on adding newspaper articles from the game to the wiki (see User:Belea2008 for the list and guidance)
• Wrap up these "Current Event" articles Category:Current_events

Ongoing Projects

• Special:LonelyPages - These are pages that don't have any pages linking to them.
• Category:Stub - These are stubs. They need templates, images, text, and/or updating.
• Category:Formatting - These pages need templates, to be reformatted or wiki-fied.
• Category:Translations - These pages need to be translated and then put in the proper LangMenu format (Help:Translating Pages).
• Countries - Country pages ALWAYS need updating.
• History - History pages always need updates, make sure entries are GLOBALLY relevant and have Category:History

Anyone is free to tackle any of these projects. Feel free to ask any questions here. Gold will be paid out to the people that take on the most labor intensive tasks, who put in a lot of work and effort, and who do a THOROUGH job. Country stats

As you must be aware, the Info tab on the main menu has changed a little. All stat pages were merged to one page Country stats. I created that page so we have something to start building a page from, but I'm a little unsure how to proceed. Here's a few suggestions:

• As expressions such as Social stats or Military stats, we should move these pages under following names:
  • Social stats -> Society
  • Economic stats -> Economy
  • Politic stats -> Politics
  • Military stats -> Military
• As clicking Country stats in-game opens Society-tab, I think we should move it's information to Country stats and redirect Socials stats and Society to page Country stats. I think redirects are better solutions than changing link names, as these pages must be linked in quite a many articles.
• Tree structure on Main Page, and page Info need to be updated.

I really really really hate it when eRepublik changes things and don't give us a heads up. Are we the official information center of this fxxxxxx game or not? We shouldn't have to say... "hay guys, I noticed this...." and then make changes a WEEK after it happened. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 19:42, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

I have raised this issue to the one in charge (the fact that we are rolling out changes which is not known by the community). :(

Regarding the actual change, I thank Kuhaa for pointing it out. I propose to make it tabbed. What do you think?

Tabs sound like a good idea. I guess I'll leave this in your hands now, because creating tabs from a scratch is beyond my skills and I'd probably end up breaking something. What about pages' names? I don't think we can stay with these current "X stats" and "Y stats", so we'll still have to move those page. After implementing tabs, should we just fix links leading to current pages? Here's a list of pages we'd have to edit: Social stats, Economic stats, Politic stats and Military stats. What about Country administration? It can be found both both from Country stats and My Places so how should it be treated?-- Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 18:55, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

By "tabs", I was trying to propose the creation of a navigational template - like this one: Template:ProductsNavigation/Core. What do you think?

About fixing links, just move the pages and I'll make sure that "Admin" does the "boring" task of fixing the links.

About Country Administration and Country administration, I consider that these pages should not exist and the page should be called "Administration".

The problem with Country administration is that it's called Country administration in "My Places" and just Administration in "Country stats". Navigation box sounds like a good idea. Would this do the job?

I also suggest we keep pages Country stats and Society separated although "Society" is the tab that opens when you click Country stats. I knew I had to mess something up. :/ While moving the pages, I forgot to move all the subpages, so the translated pages remain under the wrong name. I tried to revert the moving so I could move them back with subpages but it didn't work. So now somebody will have to delete pages Social stats, Economic stats, Politic stats and Military stats so pages Society, Economy, Politics and Military can be moved back and forth. Once again I am truly embarrassed and sorry for all the trouble I caused. It would be nice if this would be done asap. :) -- Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 13:40, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Thank you! Now what needs to be done is fixing all the links leading to these pages. Also, page Info and Main menu need to be updated on translated languages as well as Main Page's tree structure. I already did this on English pages but there's still much to be done. All the Infos and Main menus have been updated to match the current Info menu. Many of them were horribly outdated so I did a few other edits than just the stat pages as well. I'll now take time to fix Finnish pages.-- Kuhaa|sTalk to me! 19:22, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Kuhaa, whenever you do not have time to deal with a page which is outdated, yet you stumble upon it; you can tag it with the Template:Urgent. It puts them in a category and it tells the reader that the page is outdated. Me busy also in the following 2 weeks. --Belea2008 00:22, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Oh yes, I had completely forgotten about that template. Oh well, I decided to go the extra mile and now most of the pages are fixed. Actually, there are only the translations for pages Society, Economy, Politics and Military left. And also Bar and few sandboxes but I don't see them as an issue. Funny thing is that "what links here"-pages still claim that some Main Pages have links leading to these pages, but I couldn't find any. Must be due to the "tree structures", though I already fixed those. Only things that bother me are Portal:Main_Page/Punong_Katayuan and Main_Page/Filipino. Sandbox.. as well as the page someone started for macedonian. All new langauge pages should be done in a sandbox until the required amount of pages have been created for the language to be added. --QJ Lincoln Talk To Me 14:24, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Finland-Latvia War II or Latvia-Finland War?

I'd like to hear your opinion about this page: Finland-Latvia_Wars. Finland-Latvia War started when Finland occupied two Latvian regions in order to get high grain. After a while Finland was pushed away from Latvia and the countries didn't share border anymore. Yesterday Latvia attacked Southern Finland, and now someone has made a page calling this event Finland-Latvia War II. I think this is incorrect. As far as I know, battles between two countries are considered to be part of same war unless there was a peace treaty between. Now there wasn't, so wouldn't this battle(and those to come) go under Finland-Latvia War(NOT Finland-Latvia War I!)? Also, if this was to be called a completely new war, it should be named "Latvia-Finland War" as Finland-Latvia War II suggest that Finland attacked again, which it didn't. I already brought this up on article's talk page, but afterward I thought it would be solved better here. I suggest Finland-Latvia Wars to be deleted and information be moved from Finland-Latvia War I and Finland-Latvia War II back to Finland-Latvia War. The second "war" should be included in the Great War of 2009 as it is a part of the ongoing machinations of that conflict. It is separate from the earlier conflict, but is not a stand-alone war in itself. I suggest deleting Finland-Latvia War II and adding it as a battle of the Great War. --Chris Stanwick 20:15, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Also, as a side note, I propose that all these types of discussions (military ones) to be moved to eRepublik:WikiProject Military after they are completed. Or to be started directly there.

Gold offers

I have created an example of how Gold offers would look like with current information for it (a picture could be implemented, of course). It is basic information taken from link above. I wouldn't put it on the Buy gold page as it already has too much information. I would rather add section Earn extra gold by completing offers and adding link to the gold offers page. New Main Menu

Main Menu bar has been updated with one completely new section Gold and Extras. I have a picture of it and I'm ready to upload it, but I have a question. We currently have a clickable image map on pages related to Main Menu, but updating them all in translated languages will be a real pain. Should we create a template to make it more simple? I think the image map is great and I'd like to see it stay. I uploaded a new file and tried to get the measures right, but I don't know if it worked because it takes some time for image to update.

The image turned out to be pretty poor quality(and it's bigger in every aspect than the previous one) so we'll need to work on this. But I believe it would be easier to just update few templates than few dozens of pages if there are changes to menu bar in the future. Template ideas sound good. Also, your attempt with Image Map above is working fine , but...

...the Menu you are seeing is part of "live split testing". What I understood (from the tech guys): there will be more variations of the menu bar (or other sections of the website) - they will be seen by less than 10% of the citizens/organizations (there's also one variation with the Gold + Extras button all blue without the small Gold icon on it).

The goal of the "split testing" is to see which of these variations have a better impact on the eRepublik community (user friendly/increased usage). After a final decision is taken - which of these variations will be rolled out to the entire community, I will let you know. Feel free to share your thoughts about the subject.

This is the version I have, and I think it is better than then one above (the green just looks out of place IMO, and although you want the gold buying feature to be noticeable, its actually a turn off for me. The gold icon could be added though.

As for the menue itself, I find the current layout a lot better. It seems more logically where the submenus are.

I like the patti11 version, the green is too much distracting, though the gold icon should be added imho to leave that little bit of differentiation between the norml buttons and the "special" Get gold. The submenu division is much better and i like it. --Furio ^"UBW" 12:38, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

I agree that the blue one looks better, that green stands out a little too much. Belea, do you have any idea how long will this testing phase last? Also, I wasn't aware of this so sorry about the picture, it was too soon to start making changes. My money is on the blue version with the gold icon on it. The unequal distribution of menu items (Home is so short compared to the others) is a bit annoying. I would make them all a bit shorter, so they can be of equal width.--Quicksilver 19:44, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
