Rangeley was the 18th, 25th, 38th, and 49th President of Austria. Active in the media, and in politics, he served in the Austrian Congress before being first elected President on October 5th, 2009. His first tenure in office marked a transition in several ways, notably towards a "Germanization" of government postings and outreach, a new emphasis on diplomacy and internationalism, and political openness including diverse cabinets.

After serving in ministerial capacities - such as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Education - he returned to the Presidency on May 6th, 2010. His second tenure was dominated by efforts against the Croatian takeover of Austria, including increased cooperation with neighbors. Serving again as Minister of Foreign Affairs on several occasions, he worked towards a peaceful settlement over disputes with Slovakia in early 2011. Elected as President for his third tenure in June, peace was secured and built upon into a friendship with closer cooperation in July.

He would go on to serve again as Minister of Foreign Affairs on later occasions, including in the aftermath of a takeover in February 2012. Serving a fourth tenure as President in June 2012, the government undertook the "Reorganisationsplan" to update the Osterreichs Bundesheer. He currently serves as an advisor.
