Icon for the airforce division
Hello everyone. I am working on updating the division and division battles, and would mean a lot if someone could upload a high quality icon for that division - - the icon is visible when you ingame go and click on any war, choose current battle zone and it is just next to other icons - 1, 2, 3 and 4. Special points if you can upload them in the same size as the other icons are. --<span style="color:#200">AndyCro</span> Croatia <small>[[User_talk:Andycro|Do you need assistance? ::::I'm actually amazed that it took you 20 days to realize that, but ok XD. The ones you uploaded are the ones used in profiles and posts. Those that we initially had are the ones used within battles. So, we can just move the ones you uploaded to new files, and separate those two versions in something like "battle" for the initial ones and normal title for yours.-- <small><strong>Jimkats1 | <span class="plainlinks">profile</span></strong></small> 14:25, 30 January 2019 (PST)

:::::I didn't really check, I just uploaded these because they are pretty and shiny :P Sadly, I don't think there is use for the shiny ones. ::::::Bogi I honestly don't know... They are really shinny and they look quite nice, so I would just leave it :D My primary intended use was to make more visual difference when talking about Divisions and articles related to it, and it fits perfectly if you ask me as now the size and design is the same for all 5 divisions. :::::::Tbh I still disagree with that decision. The "shiny" icons don't fit everywhere. == Articles for deletion ==
+
Name Change
So, I was thinking... Perhaps we should make something like eRepublik Official Wiki:Pages for deletion, where we could keep track of and archive discussions for proposed deletions. I got the idea from Wikipedia's policy, though I don't think we need to involve as much bureaucracy as they do as we have few active editors. That way: 1) we wouldn't need to keep talk page if there was a discussion 2) if we deleted talk page and then an author or someone else wanted to take a look at the reason why it was deleted, they could. This wouldn't apply to every deletion, as most cases would fall under speedy deletion (eg. removal of redirects, duplicated pages, test pages, etc.) or articles with warning. Basically the only difference would be that discussion would take place on project page rather than on talk of the page that's proposed for deletion.

There could be a potential downtime due to a minor change to the LangMenu template on 26th of October (early morning; could have some effects during the whole day) so try not to make any super major changes without saving them somewhere out of wiki (e.g. Notepad, GDrive, etc.). Maybe even simpler solution would be to keep discussions on talk pages as they are, just move them to an archive when they are finished and include link to it when deleting a page.

Internationalization and templates
Example: As discussed: eRepublik Official Wiki:Deletion archive 1#List of Legends of the New World --<span style="font-family:Century Gothic; font-size:11pt"> Bogi・Talk</span> 08:25, 4 February 2019 (PST)
+
Due to the fact that this wiki tries to do internationalization it creates some very strange things. None of them are good. But that doesn't mean that we should add more problems to the pile.
:Going with option number 2. I'll make eRepublik Official Wiki:Deletion archive 1 shortly with few of the most recent deletions listed and then link to to the deletion policy. --<span style="font-family:Century Gothic; font-size:11pt"> Bogi・Talk</span> 06:49, 5 February 2019 (PST)

Merge of dictionary-related pages
+
One of those problems comes from somehow we have ended up with several distinct templates for the same thing. One template for the "English" version and one template for the other languages. For example: Citizen and iCitizen.
I see that there are 3 pages related to the definition of various eRepublik slang and terms. ERepublik jargon, ERepublik dictionary and Dictionary. Since all of them have similar context, I propose that we should merge them into 1 page, maybe named Dictionary, for more convenience probably. Also there's no reason having 3 similar pages, which sometimes is difficult to find.<br>
+
The styling that could be used for the new page, would be similar to the ERepublik dictionary with the table. Most of the content I guess will be from the ERepublik jargon, so that means the new page will have sections for each of the versions mentioned in that article. For the current version, maybe not all of its content will be mentioned, we shall see. Of course the new page will fall under the category of "Playing the Game".<br>
+
Don't get confused with the Abbreviations page, since that page mentions the full writing of the acronyms and some shortened words used, while dictionaries give small info about what each of those mean + for phrases.-- <small><strong>Jimkats1 | <span class="plainlinks">profile</span></strong></small> 05:00, 5 February 2019 (PST)
+
:Agreed. Dictionary page seems to be somewhat different and could perhaps be moved to project namespace if I understand its purpose correctly. As for the rest, I'd say decide what goes to dictionary and what goes to abbreviations (so there's no doubled info) and then we can delete the unnecessary one(s). --<span style="font-family:Century Gothic; font-size:11pt"> Bogi・Talk</span> 06:49, 5 February 2019 (PST)
+
:: Dictionary is obsolete and can be removed, it was used before translations become a more integral part of the game, now it is much easier to check how is something translated. erep dictionary and jargon can be merged together in one article, maybe even simply adding an additional column to specify when it was used (e.g. Beta, V1, Rising, Current, or a combination of). Therefore, I nominate Jimkats1 to take all relevant info from Jargon to eRep Dictionary and then from both of the articles to move some to Abbreviations if necessary, as he is already in the "groove". I will just double check some data from Dictionary and remove it in next two days to make room for the move of eRep dictionary to a more natural location. --<span style="color:#200">AndyCro</span> Croatia <small>[[User_talk:Andycro|Do you need assistance? == eRepublik Official Wiki:WikiProject Republic of Moldova or a portal for the Republic of Moldova ==
+
This is terrible in many ways, specially for keeping them both updated and looking the same.

although the Republic of Moldova has the same official language as Romania ... however, I am thinking of a separate project or a portal for the Republic of Moldova ... to include the official pages ... if it is started I take care of it ... anyway, I'm the one dealing with what the Republic of Moldova means and the translations into Romanian. So my question is, should we merge the two versions of such templates? Was/is there a reason that would cause something to break?

Congress elections 2008/2009
 +
At the very beginning of eRepublik during Congress elections, every CANDIDATE received a vote and NOT the party. This has been recorded on Wiki... Unfortunately this (in my opinion, Vital information) is being lost.
 +

 +
In order to streamline or bring everything into line (in the same style) we have been rewriting the old info and by doing so destroying the feel of the original Congress elections. (Which in my opinion were much more interesting as every citizen received a vote, and every citizen was elected on his merit). I feel that this info needs to be preserved and not just overwritten with (incorrect - party system) info that appears on todays eRep Congress pages.
 +

 +
Many of the old Congress results have already been lost forever... I am partial to ancient history of Austria. This country had one of the best (arguably) ancient histories in eRep., with full Congress election results in the old style. Old style results of Congress elections (of Austria) do not exist any more as they have been overwritten with new Party style election results which did not exist at the time. And individual citizens results have been lost for ever.
 +

 +
I strongly feel that our duty (as Wiki Editors and historians of the New World) is to PRESERVE actual and factual results. Especially when the system was different. Todays New World is very different to the original that we lived and played in 2008/09. Again, I feel that old results need to be preserved.  (After all, we save/preserve obsolete versions of the game).
 +

 +
I am referring to the latest edit for month of November 2008 Bundestag 2008 which was changed to reflect the new Party election result system that did not exist in November 2008. The old edit had the correct results for the November 2008 election, but that was overwritten.
 +

 +
Most importantly, I wish to stress that this is in no way criticism of the editor/s in question. But we should reach some sort of consensus and (hopefully) preserve the old and correct information.--Sre8renica (talk) 16:55, 25 November 2022 (PST)

 +
::: Stephan Condurachis Thank you, Stephan Condurachis. No information was lost - so, great work.
 +
::: There can also be information on the Region in which the candidate was standing for election. That region should be included as well (as selecting the region in which the candidate stood for election could be the difference between being elected or not).
 +
::: Andycro has done excellent work on ancient Congress of Croatia 2009. That should be our aim (if information is still available). Andy was actually there at the time, so he was able to provide tons of additional background info that us Plebs will be unable to do for other countries.
 +
::: Important thing is to preserve old info whenever possible. Unfortunately, too much has already been lost forever. --Sre8renica (talk) 16:18, 26 November 2022 (PST)

:::: I agree, with the premise and the conclusion. I am doing my best to try to dig out some data about Congress of Croatia 2009, Congress of Croatia 2010, going through many newspapers to get the data as in the game data simply was lost. :(  I am also a bit playing around with the best way how to show the results as the way how Congress elections are done changed two times. Welcome to the eRepublik Bar

Remember to sign (~~~~) your comments!

Speech balloon.png What is the bar?

The Bar is a place in which editors can exchange their ideas, or drink a beer.

After introducing yourself at the Community Portal, you can learn what changes need to be made, see what projects are going underway and take part in many active discussions. You are welcome to start a new discussion, but keep in mind that all articles have their own talk pages, and please remember to sign your comments!

In summary, how we treat each other does matter. It matters because, without empathy, our lives are shallow, self-centered and meaningless.

Downtime next week

During next week (from Monday the 20th til Friday the 24th) in the late evening / early morning time (01:00 - 06:00 CET) there will be updates to certain templates so you can expect slower wiki or even some downtime in this period. Please try not to do any major updates in this period. Thank you for understanding. :) --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Do you need assistance? Then ask me! ;)) 06:42, 17 April 2020 (PDT)

, , , , ELinkLaw corrections done; mostly HTTP --> HTTPS and some styling additions. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Do you need assistance? Then ask me! ;)) 20:35, 20 April 2020 (PDT)
IMilitary unit updated to match Military unit; testing to make sure it is fine will be done in upcoming days. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Do you need assistance? Then ask me! ;)) 18:30, 21 April 2020 (PDT)
Thanks for this AndyCro! Will any of these updates impact G-Bot? The bot now runs daily to update the region ownerships --"Icon-eRepublik.png Gucio «Talk»" 14:55, 22 April 2020 (PDT)
@Gucio: Heavy changes are done after the bot, so bot should NOT be affected. :) But do tell bot to update regions as United Kingdom, not UK xD --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Do you need assistance? Then ask me! ;)) 17:34, 22 April 2020 (PDT)
Review completed of: Country, ICountry, Alliance, IAlliance, Organization, Party, IParty, Region, IRegion. No need for major changes. IMilitary unit has some issues; requires more testing to be conducted and the fixes will be done in portions when fixes are ready to be implemented. No downtime period is to occur, the regular potential downtime for bot updates is from 02:00 - 02:15 CET every night, so try to not do large changes in that period. Thank you for your patience. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Do you need assistance? Then ask me! ;)) 16:05, 23 April 2020 (PDT)

October 2020 potential downtime

There could be a potential downtime due to a minor change to the LangMenu template on 26th of October (early morning; could have some effects during the whole day) so try not to make any super major changes without saving them somewhere out of wiki (e.g. Notepad, GDrive, etc.). Thank you for understanding. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Do you need assistance? Then ask me! ;)) 05:21, 18 October 2020 (PDT)

Internationalization and templates

Due to the fact that this wiki tries to do internationalization it creates some very strange things. None of them are good. But that doesn't mean that we should add more problems to the pile.

One of those problems comes from somehow we have ended up with several distinct templates for the same thing. One template for the "English" version and one template for the other languages. For example: Citizen and iCitizen.

This is terrible in many ways, specially for keeping them both updated and looking the same.

So my question is, should we merge the two versions of such templates? Was/is there a reason that would cause something to break?

Democr1tus (talk) 08:44, 17 March 2021 (PDT)

@Democr1tus: The idea behind splitting large templates is for the better language customization purposes and to split the usage of one template into many. However, if you have an idea how to merge everything in one - please do use your sandbox area to see if everything would work and then we can test it as Citizen2 template or smth like that. And sorry for the slow answer. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Do you need assistance? Then ask me! ;)) 05:26, 1 July 2022 (PDT)

Congress elections 2008/2009

At the very beginning of eRepublik during Congress elections, every CANDIDATE received a vote and NOT the party. This has been recorded on Wiki... Unfortunately this (in my opinion, Vital information) is being lost.

I am referring to the latest edit for month of November 2008 Bundestag 2008 which was changed to reflect the new Party election result system that did not exist in November 2008. The old edit had the correct results for the November 2008 election, but that was overwritten.

Most importantly, I wish to stress that this is in no way criticism of the editor/s in question. But we should reach some sort of consensus and (hopefully) preserve the old and correct information.--Sre8renica (talk) 16:55, 25 November 2022 (PST)

@Sre8renica: look now, is it better? "Stephan Condurachis ===>>> Do not ask me to become what I am not because then I cease to exist (talk) 01:59, 26 November 2022 (PST)"
@Stephan Condurachis: Thank you, Stephan Condurachis. No information was lost - so, great work.
There can also be information on the Region in which the candidate was standing for election. That region should be included as well (as selecting the region in which the candidate stood for election could be the difference between being elected or not).
Andycro has done excellent work on ancient Congress of Croatia 2009. That should be our aim (if information is still available). Andy was actually there at the time, so he was able to provide tons of additional background info that us Plebs will be unable to do for other countries.
Important thing is to preserve old info whenever possible. Unfortunately, too much has already been lost forever. --Sre8renica (talk) 16:18, 26 November 2022 (PST)
I agree, with the premise and the conclusion. I am doing my best to try to dig out some data about Congress of Croatia 2009, Congress of Croatia 2010, going through many newspapers to get the data as in the game data simply was lost. :( I am also a bit playing around with the best way how to show the results as the way how Congress elections are done changed two times. Definitely a challenge. --AndyCro Icon-Croatia.png Do you need assistance? Then ask me! ;)) 03:01, 1 December 2022 (PST)
