Yan Hoek was born in Aland, Finland on Day 548. He went into land industries at the first opportunity.

Peru

After disagreeing with the Finland-Latvia_War (to gain a high grain region after the loss of Moscow) Yan sought to seek his fortune elsewhere. Traveling to the newly populated country of Peru he gained employment in the booming iron industry and joined the mainly English speaking Partido de Excelencia Peruana party. Due to his poor Spanish language skills he was little help to the party bosses who were trying to convince the Spanish speaking majority (and native Peruvians) of the PEP's good intentions, but he took a active interest in discussing the future of the new country. He made it a stated aim not to see a repeat of the Finnish invasion of Latvia, a smaller country being bullied by a larger neighbour.

Yan was a congress member of the first and second government of Peru. Firstly being elected in Northern Low Amazon and then as a wildcard entry for Great Andes.

While in Peru Yan was unable to fight in wars due to the 40 day peace, unable to move to other countries due to his congress position and job, and often unable to train due to the extremely high cost of food. This has made a lasting dent in his strength.

Norway

Peru was invaded by various TO groups on the eve of Citizenship granting. As a result of this and various other more boring reasons Yan lost his seat in the third congress elections. Now free to leave the country Yan took a holiday in Spain fully intending to return to Peru. However, WWIII was in full swing at that point, and as Peru did not have an MPP with any of the anti-Peace forces and Spain did, Yan took the opportunity to fight in his temporary home.

He later moved to Norway on the eve of the Russian invasion. There he gained Norwegian citizenship. Since then he has lived in Finland during the two brief wipe-outs of Norway, Ukraine and also Argentina, fighting his old country Peru to remove the TO groups that had destroyed the country's economy.

A staunch supporter of Teknokratene, Yan ran for congress in Nordjylland, which was being held by Norway at the time, in the Feb '10 elections but was not elected. He had originally planned to run for North-East England during the Norwegian occupation, before it was liberated. A month later he was elected to congress in Sorlandet. After his re-election he served as Vice Minster of Foreign Affairs in the government of president Tommy Skaue.

After being elected a third time for Sorlandet he was asked by president Freke to become his Vice-President. That same month he became Freke's successor as president of Teknokratene. Yan ran for Nord-Norge in the June elections (as Sorlandet was being temporarily occupied by Poland) but in the struggle to stop the Communist Party of Norway PTOing congress, he lost his seat.

After the chaos of the Norwegian summer, Norway was left with a single region; Svalbard & Jan Mayen, and in an effort to help rebuild the country Yan joined Freke's second full government as Minister for Trade and Industry. He also rejoined congress in the August 2010 elections as a member of the reduced 'Svalbard Congress'.

As Norway re-stabilised and grew once more, Yan continued his work in government, both as a congress member for Trondelag and also as Work and Trade Minister for graduallynevelle up until the end of 2010.

Following a few negative changes to the game system and severe errors concerning the introduction of UAE, Yan decided to leave the game in early 2011. However it was not long before he returned. He resurrected the Teknokratene party in April 2011 after being elected president of Sentrum.

President of Norway

After a week of persuasion Yan ran for president of Norway in May 2011. Despite a strong PTO presence Yan was elected out-right.

He was president during the Raw Materials re-organisation and led reforms to improve Norway's tax income, as well as provide a state budget.

He also led the just-for-fun invasion of Faroe Islands and thanks to the damage he inflicted was awarded the title of Earl of Sandoy [1].

An just-for-fun invasion of Iceland followed and he was awarded the title of Earl of West Norður-Þingeyjarsýsla [2].

Business

Yan Hoek was the sole owner and CEO of Bellatrix Oy (named after the 3rd brightest star in the constellation of Orion, also known as Gamma Orionis). It has one subsidiary 'eNamibia Exporters'. Both organisations were dissolved on day 1,269

Military

Yan is a serving member of Telemark Bataljon and currently holds the rank of Colonel*. His strength is behind the curve compared to many of his contemporaries, a legacy of his time in Peru.

Newspaper

Yan Hoek is the editor, and currently, sole contributor to Cloud Cuckoo Land News, a paper dedicated to filling the dead space that sometimes plagues the Norwegian media. Cloud Cuckoo Land News (or CCLN for short) is currently only distributed in Norway but Yan has long-term plans to make it worldwide.

Its most regular feature is 'A Blueprint for the Future'; a series discussing various changes that could be made to the game.

Some of the suggestions have been partially taken up by Admin (although whether Yan and his articles had anything to do with it is a moot point). Others are mere pipe dreams.

Blueprint #1 [3] - Splitting raw materials.

Blueprint #2 [4] - Government changes.

Blueprint #3 [5] - Controlling company creation.

Blueprint #4 [6] - Make hospitals wear out.

Blueprint #5 [7] - Make defense systems wear out.

Blueprint #6 [8] - Pollution.

Blueprint #7 [9] - Professional jobs.

Blueprint #8 [10] - Potential happiness industries.

Blueprint #9 [11] - Micronations, Banking & Tourism.

Blueprint #10 [12] - Sports.

Blueprint #11 [13] - Adding new countries.

Blueprint #12 [14] - Country specific trading.

Blueprint #13 [15] - Contracts.

Blueprint #14 [16] - Private healthcare.

Blueprint #15 [17] - Changes to congress candidates.

As the president of Teknokratene, Yan holds the party newspaper TekKen and occasionally writes anonymous and faintly depressing articles about the dilapidated state of Norwegian government.
