History of the British Armed Forces
Historical Branches
The British Armed Forces have a long history of reform and restructuring, hence a large number of defunct and revitalised branches, and liquid rank structure.
Reserves
Little is known about the reserves by the current generation, and the branch can be seen as the first official UK military unit, which was founded sometime in 2008. It is thought that this unit's first engagement was during the USA-Canada War. The Reserves was later split into the Royal Navy, Royal Guard and Royal Parachute Regiment (Paras).
British Expeditionary Force
The British Expeditionary Force was the name of the last military unit remaining in the British Armed Forces. It was renamed from the United Kingdom Special Forces, after the membership of that unit was opened up to anybody wishing to join.
The Royal Guard
The Royal Guard, alongside the Navy, was the oldest branch of the British Armed Forces. It was a territorial branch, lastly commanded by Brigadier CertaCito. Royal Guard at its peak contained 5 companies of troops (each with 4 or 5 squads). The Royal Guard was decommissioned in the summer of 2009 due to inactivity and ineffectiveness.
The Royal Navy has been the senior, longest-serving & oldest, service of the British Armed Forces, springing to life after Operation French Toast in January 2009. At its peak, it reached around 700 sailors & officers amongst seven fleets and 30 combat ships. Founded by Brigadier Hassan Pesaran, it was finally commanded by Admiral John F Baker, after which it was dismantled for Version 2 military reforms.
The Royal Marines
The Royal Marines was a sub-branch of the Royal Navy first commanded by Lieutenant General Tom Morgan. It later split off from the Navy to become its own branch as a middle-strength, high activity deployable branch. It was later merged with the SFSG in preparation for Version 2 military reforms.
The Royal Air Force
The Royal Air Force was an experiment by the Minister of Defence, to provide a mid-ground for medium-strength troops before joining the Paras. It lived a short life of just over 1 month, and was commanded by Scipio The Great, Dan Fallows and widdows9000 all within this time. It was merged with the Paras mid-2010 due to economies of scale in commune production.
Royal Parachute Regiment
The Royal Parachute Regiment was the Special Forces branch of the British Armed Forces from November 2008 to November 2009. It was commonly and affectionately referred to as "The Paras", and was home to some of the greatest military men & women of the United Kingdom. It was decommissioned and merged with the Royal Marines to become the Special Forces Support Group. Its last commanding officer was Field Marshal Count Drakula.
Special Forces Support Group
The Special Forces Support Group was a merged branch of the Paras and Royal Marines, led by Generals Count Drakula and Horice G Fossil. It was the Special Forces branch of the British Armed Forces until version 2, when it was re-defined as the Special Air Service.
Special Air Service
The Special Air Service was the special forces branch of the British Armed Forces for the duration of Version 2, commanded by General Count Drakula. It was decommissioned in June 2010 due to the decreasing population of the eRepublik world.
British Army
The British Army was formed as a result of V2 restructuring and reform, which saw the breakup of the Royal Navy into four sub-branches; one designated four each of the four weapon skills:
Later, after the erepublik weapon skills were merged, these units were reduced to two divisions:
Three other sub-branches existed for territorial, training and support purposes, at different times:
- British Army Reserve
- Army Training Corps
- Royal Logistics Corps
The Tri-Service Military
The British Army was reformed in January 2011 into the culturally separate, but functionally indifferent British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force “tri-service”. The Brtish Armed forces continued to run in this way until October 2011 when it was streamlined into IRC active (British Army) and IRC inactive (Royal Navy later rebranded British Army Reserves) branches by Field Marshal Sir Mic.
Military Ranks, Decorations, Awards and Insignia
Military Ranks, Decorations, Medals and Insignia are military awards which recognize service, position, and personal accomplishments of a soldier whilst a member of the United Kingdom's Military. Together with military badges, such awards are a means to outwardly display the highlights of a service member's career.
