The new Military Module is available for everybody!

Published on: September 28, 2010 (Day 1,043)

Dear citizens,

The first night of the new Military Module has passed, and so did the first battle. We are actually very satisfied to say that everything went smoothly, there were no big problems, no major bugs, no errors. This being said we find no reason to postpone the big launch so there you go: today, Day 1043, around 5 o’clock eRepublik time, we will put it live for everybody!

Rising battlefield.jpg

Each and every one of you will be able to play it, criticize it, love it but, even more important, send us feedback on it. This is very important for us, we need your opinions and your suggestion to improve this module. We want to let you know that in the following days we will watch closely your battles and we will read your comments in order to determine and implement fast what improvements can we add. This is your game and we want you to enjoy it at the fullest.

Speaking about your feedback, until now, we have gathered 3 major suggestions from you: remove happiness, the booster to instantly defeat your opponent and the fact that the current hospital is helping too much the defender.

The first wish will be granted soon, as we already informed you, happiness will be removed. We are just delaying this a little bit in order to give a chance to managers to empty their stocks of “happiness” products.

About the rocket launcher and the hospitals, we have noted your suggestions and we will come back in the following days with our proposals.

Also here are some answers for the most asked of your questions from our last Insider:

Q. How many rank/skill/experience points we get from fighting?
You will get 1 experience point every time you press the fight button.

Q. Why is there a need to have 4 military skills if they do the same damage?
In the future period of time, we will address this issue and improve the concept. Please make sure that you send us your ideas. Meanwhile, don’t forget to use the weapon that is fitted to your best skill for maximum results.

Q. How many times can we recover health from hospitals? How many health does it recover?
It depends on the customization of the hospital. The maximum amount of health you can recover is 100 health (by using the hospital 10 times). There are 250 uses per CP, which means that an amount of 2,500 players can use a Q5 hospital that offers 10 uses per player.

Q. If there isn't a fighter on a side what happens?
It will always be an opponent for you, on the other side. If this doesn’t happen it means you really did something bad in a past life and you should report it as a bug.

Q. In the new military module, which kind of skill will be used to calculate the damage if I have no weapon?
The highest skill.

Of course, these are only a few answers, we will come back soon with a Q&A Insider. Until then, you can continue to post comments if you have questions. And by the way, THANK YOU ALL for feedback and support!

Kind regards,
Your eRepublik Team

The new improved Military Module is live!

Published on: September 27, 2010 (Day 1,042)

Dear citizens,

Today is the big day that many of you have expected: we are happy to announce that the Military Module is here again!

Like any new feature, it needs a period of testing until it will run at full capacity. That’s why the Presidents will not have yet the Attack buttons available. Still, in order for you to have a first contact with the improved Military Module, we will open a training battle between Icon-Malaysia.png Malaysia and the Icon-Philippines.png Philippines were you can see how the wars will look like “tomorrow”.

But, keep in mind one thing. Because we are talking about a training battle, if you want to invest Gold in the battles keep in mind that it will not be refunded. The entire battle will be, of course, sustained by us, but any personal investments will depend entirely on your decision. Also, all the result will be reversed and no country will lose any national gold or territory.

When the Military Module will be live for everybody? Well, if everything works fine and we will manage to solve fast the bugs that may appear, we hope that it will be 100% available in about 24-48 hours.

Also, here are some quick info about what else is changed:

  • You will discover that there are no weapons on the market. This is happening because they suffered some migrations, therefore all of them are back in their companies.
  • In this Military Module, all the weapons (rifle, artillery, tank and air unit) have the same level of damage and only 2 customizable elements instead of 4. Also, all the weapons will be equal from the production time point of view.
  • As we stated in a previous Insider, we will also come up, in the following days, with a military skill migration.
  • A battle can last now between 16 and 30 hours, since the battle is split into 15 small battles. The first side who gain 8 victories shall win the battle (a small battle will last for 2 hours).
  • You cannot choose your opponent, he will be randomly generated for you, from the total number of possible opponents, based on matchmaking.

If you have any other questions please post comments to the Insider and we will come up as soon as possible with the answers, so stay tuned. Until then, here is a short tutorial about the new Military Module.

New things on their way to “live”: Military Module and countries + Train Update 2!

Published on: September 23, 2010 (Day 1,038)

Dear citizens,

The improved Military Module will be live next week!

What?? How is this possible? Was the Admin hacked?!?
Well... No! Just... in the last eight weeks, we have spent a lot of time gathering your opinions through tickets and surveys or talking with heavy and more casual eRepublik players. During this period, we have understood that the current military module is not quite the type that the majority of eRepublik citizens want to play.

Furthermore, what you will see live next week, will be just the beginning of a constant process of improvement, which will be made possible through your feedback. It's a better base to build from.

In order for this to take place, we want to let you know that starting with Day 1,039, at 4:00 o’clock eRepublik time, we will disable all the “Attack” buttons and no battle will be allowed to start from that moment, until we go live with the improved Military Module. Before that happens, we will need a period of downtime, but we can assure you, that we will warn you beforehand and we will keep it as short as possible.

In this new revised military module, you will be able to enter eRepublik and fight for your country right away, without opening a flash client or wait for your turn in order to fight. Also, you will not pray for a critical hit, be tempted with just one single booster instead of five and destroy in 5 minutes more enemies than you probably could fight against in several hours with Rising.

On the other hand, you will gain experience points for every fight. Instead of 3 to 5 free fights, you will have the possibility to fight at least 9 times for free (if you have food in your inventory, you will be able to fight many more times, without using Gold). Also, we have some good news for the medal hunters: the number of Battle Hero Medals will be increased from 2 to at least 16! How is that possible? Just wait and see in a few days!

Regarding the Military Skill migrations that you have requested, we want to let you know that immediately after the Military Module will be live, we will solve work on this issue.

Insider - September 2010 - New countries.jpg

What are the new countries that we intend to add to eRepublik?

Switching the point of view, let’s take a look at the eRepublik World Map. A lot of grey areas, aren’t they? Well, we have decided that (with your contribution) it’s time to do something about it. Hence, we have analyzed the current traffic generated by the countries that are not yet in eRepublik and we have discovered that six of them are ready to face the New World: Icon-Republic of Macedonia (FYROM).png the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM)***, Icon-Montenegro.png Montenegro, Icon-Republic of China (Taiwan).png Taiwan, Icon-Cyprus.png Cyprus, Icon-Belarus.png Belarus and Icon-New Zealand.png New Zealand.

If you are, in real life, a citizen of one of these countries, we kindly ask you to send us a message using the Contact Page, submit a ticket to the Game Support Department and choose “New country” as subject). We would like to establish together a few technical details.

One last detail, we have scheduled that these new countries could join the game in the first half of October; thus wait a little bit if you wish to create baby booms in your future new e-country.

That’s it for now! The next Insider will be published before launching the improved Military Module. Meanwhile, if you have any other questions don’t hesitate to submit tickets or to post comments and we will come back with the answers.

Kind regards,
Your eRepublik Team

***We know that there is an entire discussion about the name of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. We will not engage ourselves in any debate about this topic, so please do not insist! We will use the same reference as the majority of the International Organisations, until the moment the two countries involved will initial an official treaty about the final official denomination.
For those of you that have the urge to debate the nomination, you can read on the Wikipedia about the Macedonia naming dispute and its current status.

Update 1

Train Update - Day 1,040 at 1:15 o'clock eRepublik time

Did we mention in the last Insider that we are going to listen to you more and we intend the build the game, from now on, also based on your feedback? Yes, we did! But as they say, facts matter more! Here is an example that we are sure you will appreciate!

Starting today (from 0:00 o'clock, eRepublik time) we have changed the standard train time from 4 hours to 8 hours, in order for you to have the chance to raise your military skill faster!

Thanks a lot for your feedback and support on this issue!

Have a great weekend everybody!
Your eRepublik Team

Update 2

Train Update 2 - Day 1,042 at 2:00 o'clock eRepublik time

Dear citizens,

We have encountered some issues and it seems that the improvement from 4 to 8 hours was not active on Day 1,040, like we have stated. But we have worked to discover the causes and we can inform you that starting this morning at 0:00 eRepublik time everything is solved.

So, if you will train today, your military skill will increase with a double amount compared with the previous days. We are really sorry for the inconvenience.

On the other hand, we would like to inform you that today we will have some downtime around 3:00 eRepublik time. If this will take place we want to apologize for the inconvenience.

Have a great week everyone,
Your eRepublik Team

Time management, study and relax are history - Downtime Day 1038

Published on: September 22, 2010 (Day 1,037)

Dear citizens,

Today and yesterday a few changes took place. Don’t worry, we didn’t come up with anything new, we will stick with the plan that we’ve discussed in the last Insider.

As you probably noticed, we’ve said goodbye to two of our beautiful ladies: Gina and Lisa (we’re not saying goodbye to Lana for now). To be more specific, you won’t need to study and relax anymore. With these changes, time management became obsolete too. Also, we will make a small adjustment to the salaries: they will be presented per day, not anymore per hour.

Relax is history! Time management is history! Study is (kind of) history: based on your feedback, we have decided that the normal skill gains you got from studying to be added to the work action. So, from now on, the skill you used to gain by studying will increase more, at a pace rate equal with your productivity.

For the moment, until we will remove happiness completely, you will lose only 2 (two) units of Happiness for work and 1 (one) for training. Let’s say goodbye to sudden drops in Happiness!

But improving does not mean only removing “stuff”. So, starting today, managers will be able to work at a company, even at their own.

That being said, more or less this would be all for the moment with making the economy a little more accessible for new citizens.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s Insider (Day 1,038), since we will give you some more details about the improved military module and about some countries we want to add in eRepublik in the future weeks.

Regards,
Your eRepublik Team

Update 1

Dear citizens,

As we’ve already informed you yesterday, we will make today a small adjustment to the salaries: they will be presented per day, not anymore per hour.

For this to happen we will need to put the site into maintenance for a period of 1 hour between 05.00 and 06.00 eRepublik time.

Regards,
Your eRepublik team

eRepublik tomorrow - Future changes and the big picture

Published on: September 16, 2010 (Day 1,031)

Dear citizens,

Since the new modules were launched, some of you expressed pretty clearly that you're not quite happy with all the improvements.

So what did we do about it? Of course, some will comment (after "first", "second", "first page" and "pertamax") that almost nothing, we don't listen and we don't communicate. Well... you are not entirely wrong (not to say that you're quite right).

We have listened to you, we have made some research in the community (quantitatively and qualitatively) and... we've started working on fixing the issues mentioned by you. But, indeed, we did not communicate with all of you on what we were working on. We preferred to keep a low profile until we managed to collect all the changes desired by the community. Plus, we had to analyze the implications that these changes could have.

So... here's the thing. We've messed up some features in the gameplay and we've complicated the game too much. We are admitting this to you and below, we will share with you how we plan to give you back the game we all love.

We have told you about some changes in the last Insiders, some of them are already live, but, in order for you to see that those were not random and crazy changes, here is the big picture we are aiming for, based on your feedback.

Your Goals for eRepublik

Make eRepublik simpler (like V1), more intuitive and less Gold intensive!

How do we intend to deliver on these goals?

Step 1
Simplify the New World Economy and make it more efficient and accessible to new users
→ Done: manual food consumption, change productivity formula, remove professions;
→ To be done: remove happiness, time management, leisure and study, improve the adviser with daily missions or quests that serve as guidance and a reminder (remember daily tasks?).

Step 2
Improve the user experience in the first days of eRepublik and support countries to make baby booms easier by simplifying and improving the registration process, improving the eRepublik homepage and making fighting faster paced, more entertaining and easier to understand.

Step 3
Improve the military module based on learning from past mistakes as well as research and feedback from the community:
→ We will remove: turns, flash player, critical chance, tiles, many of the boosters;
→ We will keep: PvP, various types of weapons, military skills, military rank;
→ We will add: speed of play, experience points, more hero medals, more free fights for every player, more intense battles.
In short, we keep the good sides of Rising (yes, it did have some) and bring back what you most loved about V1.

We will give more details, in future dedicated Insiders, for every improvement mentioned here. But we hope that now, by sharing with you the big picture, you will understand all the "minor" changes we are doing these days.

We plan to have the first steps of all of the above live by the end of September 2010 (no, this is not a joke)! And then... we will work on them to make them constantly better.

Keep in mind, once again, that if we were able to draw this big picture, it is thanks to our past successes as well as mistakes and your feedback (not just from comments or articles but also from thousands of tickets a quantitative as well as qualitative research). Therefore this big picture is an expression of our common will and we are confident that it will bring more fun to the New World.

We know we will never be able to make everyone happy even with the above changes. But on the other hand, we will constantly consult you through surveys or direct feedback to make sure that the vast majority of you are happy and we make the right improvements.

Kind regards,
Your eRepublik Team

Downtime is over, professions merge is live

Published on: September 14, 2010 (Day 1,029)

Dear citizens,

We would like to let you know that today we will implement a new change in the Economic Module: eliminating Professions and their levels.

For this to happen we will need to put today the site into maintenance for a period of 1 hour between 5.00 and 6.00 eRepublik time, Day 1029.

We’ll come back with more information after the changes are applied so stay tuned for the next Insider.

Regards,
Your eRepublik team

Update

Dear citizens,

As you had the opportunity to see, the professions merge is live and now you can work in every field that you are interested in. This will increase the competition between companies for every active worker.

From the company owners point of view, the good news is that you do not have to hire different workers for each product part and your employees will create directly the final product. This means less time spent administrating your company.

On the other hand, even if we said that the skill level names will be removed, your feedback on this aspect was very convincing and we have decided to keep them. Thanks for your tickets sent using contact page!

Known existing issue: be aware of the fact that, for the moment, you cannot post offers for Guru**. We are working on this issue and we aim to solve it in about 24 hours. If you have this skill level though, you can accept job offers for Guru*, until the issue is solved.

Thanks a lot for support,
Your eRepublik Team

Productivity change and Society Builder issue

Published on: September 10, 2010 (Day 1,025)

Dear citizens,

Productivity changed

We wish to announce to you that the productivity change was implemented. We have balanced the productivity by decreasing the difference between the productivity of new citizens compared to the old citizens. The reason for this is pretty obvious: new citizens were not being hired, because General Managers obtained profit only if they hired high skilled citizens. We’re happy to announce that you can now be profitable even if you hire “newbies”.

In the following days, we will also start the next “minor” step in the process of improving the Economic Module: eliminating Professions and their levels. We will update the Insider when we will have a clear date and time when these changes will be applied.

This is just the beginning of a road with the goal of improving the economy of the New World. We will provide more details about this in the future Insiders.

Society builder medals

Some time ago we've found that, in some particular cases, the Society Builder Achievement was awarding more “medals” and treasure maps than normal. We've managed to locate all the accounts that were affected by this bug and we've retrieved the gold and the medals received. We’re still investigating some loose ends; thus if you still encounter problems regarding this issue don’t hesitate to contact us.

The eRepublik team

Elections Day - no cheating allowed!

Published on: September 6, 2010 (Day 1,021)

Dear citizens,

As you know, Presidential Elections took place yesterday in all the eRepublik countries. As usual, a lot of citizens tried to convince their nations that they are the best option in their country for the following 30 days.

Unfortunately, the electoral process was not 100% fair. But, as we stated many months ago, we are completely against illegal activities in the game process and we will do our best to give you a fair playing environment, each and every day.

Based on this statement, we have checked all the votes involved in these elections and where we have found illegal actions we have taken measures. As a result, we have found illegal votes and, of course, we have removed them. This action affected the final results in a few countries. Congratulations to all the final winners and good luck in the following month!

In the end, we want to remind you that we have no tolerance for any illegal activity and we will continue to take proper measures in this type of situations. We know that our actions are not that visible all the time, but be sure that we will always react as fast as possible.

Once again we want to thank all the citizens that got involved in the process and sent us tickets. They were very helpful and made our job much easier.

Kind regards,
Your eRepublik team

Changes in the Economy Module

Published on: September 3, 2010 (Day 1,018)

Dear citizens,

After a long analysis, we've decided that adding new features won't solve necessarily old problems. Furthermore, in order to improve the experience of new citizens, decrease the unemployment rate and increase the work presence, we'll make some "minor" adjustments to the Economy module. These improvements will basically try to make the experience in eRepublik more linear and rewarding.

First thing on our list: eliminating Professions and their levels. This change will make it easier for any citizen to find a job and to improve his living. More than that, from now on it will be easier for citizens to move, at any time, to an industry where the request for labor is higher. In the process of moving to one single Work skill, all the skills in different professions will be summed up in that single Work skill.

The second thing we will do very soon is to improve the productivity formula. Right now, new citizens find a job very hard because their productivity is close to zero compared to more experienced citizens.

There will be 2 adjustments here:

  1. New players will produce more; thus hiring them will be more profitable.
  2. Every increase in Work skill will bring less abrupt productivity changes; thus almost every citizen will see slight changes in their daily work results.

These 2 small projects are following the Food Consumption Project and they are part of a bigger plan to improve the eRepublik economy. Stay tuned for more news in the following Insiders.

Don't hesitate to share your feedback regarding the economy module by leaving a comment on this article.

Military

As you may know, last night we had some serious issues regarding the military module. We tried to solve it while keeping it live but, unfortunately, there were high risks involved. So we decided to put down the military module and work on it immediately. This way, the final results were not influenced too much due to battles "freeze". Happily, after 12 hours of hard work, we have managed to get the battles back on their track.

We want to apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused and we want to concentrate our attention in preventing these types of situations.

Regards,

Your eRepublik team
