Mindanao is a region in Philippines and its capital is Davao.

Name
Mindanao (simplified Chinese: 棉兰老岛), is also known as Gran Molucas (English: Great Moluccas).
The name of Mindanao came from the Sultanate of Maguindanao, which was established by Sharif Kabungsuwan, a Muslim preacher from Moluccas. The sultanate, at its peak, covered the entire island of Mindanao, thus its name.

Mindanao is one of the locations of the Southeast Asian War Games. Three of the 83 legs of the War Games were fought in Mindanao.
