Oboacer (born October 26, 2010) was a citizen of New Zealand.

Background

Oboacer passport photo

Oboacer was born in Wellington, New Zealand. He spent much of his early life simply two-clicking and reading up the history of the New World through the eRepublik wiki. He joined the NZ forums early in order to get an understanding of how the game works and to meet new people. He spent his first few weeks "two-clicking" and trying to learn the basics.

Things began to change as the November 5th Presidential elections approached. Hoping to become more involved, Oboacer joined the Peace 'n' Prosperity Party (PnPP) and started to become active on the party forums.

Early Political Career

Oboacer was recruited to the PnPP by party founder Thingol and in the November 15th 2010, PP election he supported Albert Neurath. He was an outspoken member on the PnPP forums and Albert recognized this and appointed him to the "party commission", making him the youngest member to sit on it.

In the December 5th, PP elections, he supported Bristel Akina and worked closely with him during his term as PP. He was involved in both the December 25th Parliamentary campaign and also the January 5th, Presidential elections (where he actively supported Bedi Vere). He had been a key supporter of Vera in the party-primary held days earlier.

1st Cabinet Role

Following the victory of kurojca in the January election, Oboacer was named by the new President as Minister of Education/New Citizens. This made him one of the youngest NZ Cabinet Ministers.

As the Minister, he sought to implement a "Mentorship Program" for new players and to create new "Welcome Message" for new NZ citizens. He was particularly active in using the NZ forums to promote policy ideas and announcements about the "Ministry of Education". However, none of these policies ever came to fruition and Oboacer was not re-appointed to Cabinet in February.

First Parliamentary Term

In the February 25th 2011, Parliamentary elections, Oboacer stood for the PnPP in the region of Canterbury. On election day he secured 4 votes and was the 17th placed candidate in the election.

As MP, Oboacer sought to promote a policy of transparency and lower taxes. He sought to cooperate with the MP's from Aotearoa and to ensure Canterbury was spared any region-swaps. His term ended on March 25th, 2011.

PnPP Party Secretary

On January, 15th, 2011, Marcos Arolia was elected PP of the PnPP and appointed Oboacer "Party Secretary". This would be the first of three (3) terms he would serve from January till April.

As Party Secretary, Oboacer sought to implement the policies of then PP Arolia but also tried to increase the party membership. During this time notably players like declandonaghy88, runningtings, mortalbeta and Xanthar Zaiban joined the PnPP. The membership drives were also successful as the PnPP successfully solidified itself as a top-five party in NZ.

The party also experienced major changes while he served as Party Secretary. It fostered closer ties with other parties (notably the Speight's Supporters Party). However, he was also at the heart of the ill-fated attempt to launch a new opposition party and the failure to run a candidate in the March 5th Presidential elections. In both occasions, Oboacer offered to resign but the membership refused it.

He was instrumental in supporting Xanthar's April Presidential campaign in both the party primary and the general election. Though X lost, he took over 30%. This was a fitting end to his final term as Party Secretary.

Party Leadership "round one"

The founding logo of the PnPP

In April 2011, Oboacer entered the campaign for PnPP PP primary. He quickly secured the support of the active party members like mortalbeta, Xanthar, Crusadercarl, rootbeer123 and former PP Albert N and former Party Secretary Michal Lodziana 1. He was acclaimed in the party primary and on April 15th he was elected PP by a vote of 15 to 0.

One of his first acts as PP was to appoint mortalbeta as Party Secretary and to prepare for the April 25 Parliamentary elections. He sought to engage formally inactive PnPP members and to run the largest slat of party candidates. This paid off in the elections as the party won 7 of 40 seats. This was its best result since November 2010.

In May, the PnPP pulled off a huge surprise when it nominated former NZ President Don KronoX as its Presidential candidate. Quickly this candidate won the support of Ranginui, Red label Party (RLP) and Aotearoa. On election day, KronoX stood unopposed and won 166 votes (100%). This marked the first time a PnPP candidate had won the NZ Presidency. This candidacy had been possible because Oboacer strongly pushed the PnPP to embrace figures formally associated with Aotearoa. The PnPP was rewarded from this election by placing 6 members in the NZ Cabinet.

On May 15, 2011, Oboacer was elected to a second term as PnPP PP, winning over Xanthar Zaiban by a vote of 15 to 6. He sought to focus on building stronger ties between the PnPP and the other top parties in NZ and creating an engaging membership base within the party. He appointed Fionia as his new Party Secretary following his re-election. His focus was on electing another PnPP President and increasing its membership.

In the run-up to the May 25 Parliamentary elections, Oboacer, worked out an agreement with the PP's of the top-four parties in NZ to ensure each run a predetermined amount of candidates. This agreement resulted in a very calmly run election and saw the PnPP increase its seat count, winning 8 of 40 seats. This tied the party for its best result ever back in November 2010. Oboacer was particularly involved in messaging members on where to vote and who to support.

After these results, he focused on building a strong campaign for the next Presidential election. He benefited from the announced candidacy of RL Kiwi Crusadercarl (CC) who agreed to represent the PnPP in the election. This quickly led both Ranginui and UIS to support CC. On election day, CC won office with 62% of the vote, defeating former CP Koska de STRAH of RLP who won 38%. This marked the second consecutive PnPP President elected and made it 2 for 2 under Oboacer's leadership.

It was during this period that Oboacer also began discussions on the PnPP forming its own private militia, similar in nature to the military units employed by Ranginui and Ujedinjenje ili smrt (UIS). The idea proved complicated and although causing interesting debate within the PnPP, it was placed on the back burner following the reorganization of the New Zealand Army by the CC administration.

On June 8, 2011, Oboacer announced he would not seek re-election as PnPP PP, citing RL issues.

Government Figure

Following his first stint as PP, Oboacer sought to step back from the major leadership role within the PnPP and was re-appointed Party Secretary by the new PP rootbeer123. However, Oboacer sought to put his focus on his new Ministerial career which had restarted following the inauguration of the 1st KronoX Cabinet. This era would be one of the longest lasting for Oboacer, spanning nearly five months and covering a very interesting period in his career.

2nd Cabinet Roles

Oboacer reviewing a manuscript of his popular "NZ Update" series

One day after the election, President KronoX announced his Cabinet and Oboacer found himself appointed one of two NZ Vice Presidents. He took on the duty of being the government's official correspondence with NZ's Parliament. Helping to ensure the government bills secured passage and MP's were informed of what to vote.

During the First Argentina-New Zealand War, Oboacer, worked tirelessly to bring more allies onside to the cause of NZ. He reached out to the Luna Alliance and sought to bring his allies in Belgium to join the NZ cause. He was involved with the Cabinet during crucial war decisions, and though not a strong fighter, took part in all the major engagements. He was notably involved in the Battle of Otago and the subsequent Battle of Canterbury.

A defining feature of his time as NZ Vice President, has been his VP Talk-back article. This weekly articles features updates from the NZ government, information on crucial Parliamentary votes and on any major foreign/domestic news item. He has sought to create greater transparency for the NZ community and keep a constant stream of government information available to the public.

Following the completion of Don KronoX's term, Oboacer stepped down as VP and was re-appointed to the new Cabinet of Crusadercarl as the Minister of Information. A key reason for his appointment was the recognition of his public articles and his efforts to keep the citizens of NZ informed. He created a new series of articles entitled NZ Update which were designed along the same format as his previous VP Talk-back. They proved to be popular and earned Obo admiration from a host of NZ's most active citizens. He also appointed a "Deputy" at this time, Ivan Blair.

Following the election victory of kuorjca, Oboacer was re-appointed to the Cabinet, retaining his current portfolio as MoI. His "NZ Update" articles have proven to be popular with the NZ citizenry and have gained a wide following in the country. Oboacer has continued to be a strong voice in the NZ government and has worked tirelessly to ensure that a new Immigration Policy is developed by all parties in NZ. He remained a popular choice for Cabinet retained his position as MoI in both the 2nd Kurojca and the Splindza administrations. The latter was impressive, considering the controversy that arose during his tenure as PnPP PP at this period.

In September, PnPP member Mortalbeta was elected President and re-appointed Oboacer to her Cabinet. However, he was no longer MoI but became the Minister of Foreign Affairs. This was a new position for Oboacer and one that took some getting used too. However, due to wide variety of RL issues, Obo was unable to properly perform in the position and generally had a lackluster term as MoFA.

In the subsequent Cabinet of DaRkO 206, he was appointed as Minister of Education, thereby returning to the post he held in February. Oboacer used this time to release articles outlining how the recent changes in eRepublik would affect players and an article on basic fighting tips. Both were generally well received by the public. He did not get to release as many articles as both party commitments and RL issues arose.

Following the election of Helen Moon in November, Oboacer turned down a Cabinet position, indicating that he had RL commitments to take care of and voluntarily stepped back from Cabinet. Thus ended his five month tenure in Cabinet. During this period, Oboacer had been one of only three members to serve in all five Cabinets.

Second Parliamentary Term

During his time in the KornoX Cabinet, Oboacer stood for parliament in the region of Canterbury during the May, 2011 elections. He was elected that day as one of 8 PnPP members. He, along with the other PnPP candidates, had campaigned on a series of pledges to aid the citizens of eNZ and help with the post-war recovery.

One of his most outstanding acts came during the month of June when he he sponsored legislation to reduce the VAT on food by 1%. This had been a key pledge of the PnPP during the elections. He personally messaged all MP's, asking for them to support his proposal. He was vindicated when Parliament passed it by a vote of 29 to 6. In the subsequent June, 25 parliamentary elections, Oboacer was re-elected to Parliament.

Oboacer has since been re-elected to the 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th New Zealand Parliaments. He has continued to represent Canterbury during these times and has been taken on a leadership role within the PnPP Parliamentary caucus. Due to his seniority, Oboacer is viewed by many as a veteran political figure.

Party Leadership "round two"

In late July, the PnPP PP, rootbeer123, announced he would not run for a second term and Oboacer subsequently put his name forward for consideration. He faced off against another former PP and mentor, Marcos Arolia, along with his MoI Deputy, Ivan Blair and newcomer Zachery Veilleux. In the forum primary, he emerged victorious, capturing 50% of the vote. In the in-game elections, he stood against mjoybgd. He won by a vote of 30 to 7.

During this term, Oboacer focused upon increasing the party's membership and improving the outcome in the Parliamentary elections. Thanks to his recruitment drive and focus on winning seats, the PnPP captured 11 of 40 seats, a record for the party. It was at this time that the party began to increase its cooperation with Ranginui resulting in both parties signing an electoral agreement to nominate joint Presidential candidates. This resulted in the PnPP not running a candidate in August and instead supporting Srnica, she was defeated but did capture over 36% of the vote.

The fallout from this action, caused the UIS and RLP to break off ties with the PnPP and Ranginui. The backlash led Oboacer to be isolated from the other parties and caused the PnPP to suffer for this. Recognizing the error he had caused, Obo choose not to seek re-election and was later succeed by former CP Crusadercarl as PnPP PP.

Although he remained outside the PnPP leadership, he returned as Party Secretary in late August when Zuludude was forced to resign to due RL issues. Oboacer would remain in this position under later PP's runningtings and Aleda542. He officially stood down on November 3, 2011 due to RL issues and indicated he would remain outside party politics for the immediate future.

First Presidential Campaign & After

Oboacer speaking at campaign rally

In late October, after much thought and discussion with other members, Oboacer sought to put his name forward to become the PnPP Presidential candidate for November. He allowed himself to stand in the party's forum primary and was duly acclaimed when no other candidate offered. He was nominated by the party on October 27.

In the campaign, Oboacer faced off against Love and Peace (L&P) candidate Helen Moon and his former political ally KrMa who stood on behalf of Ranginui. He started at a disadvantage due to Helen being endorsed by the UIS and the recently revived Speight's Supporters Party but also by the ending of the PnPP and Ranginui cooperation. This made the campaign a challenge and easily made Helen the favourite candidate. Throughout the campaign, Oboacer ran on his Presidential Manifesto which emphasized "Military, Economic, Social and Political" proposals. The campaign benefited from all three candidates releasing a platform and therefore offering the voters an idea of their hoped for goals. Throughout it, Oboacer avoided attacking either candidate and much of the race was held in a cordial and enjoyable atmosphere.

On election night, Oboacer held his closing rally at PnPP headquarters in Wellington. He was joined by former PnPP PP rootbeer, current PP Aleda542, current party secretary Ginny Tory, former CP mortalbeta, along with a host of past and present PnPP MP's and various party members. At 19.24 erepublik time, Oboacer conceded defeat to Helen, having won 32% to her 60%.

Post-Election Activity

Following the defeat, Oboacer sought to return to his lifestyle as a Congressmen. He refused any major party of government offices and instead remained on the sideline. He provided support to the PnPP throughout the month and was re-elected to Congress. He also took an active role within the newly established Kiwi Military Guard (KMG).

In December, veteran PnPP member mortalbeta was returned to the Presidency following the surprise impeachment of UIS CP Pijoy. In her subsequent Cabinet he was appointed Vice-President and took on the role with dedication. In the PnPP PP race for December, Obo endorsed long-time friend Fionia and was rewarded by being appointed Co-Party Secretary, along with Isaac Anderson. He was also returned to Congress on December 25.

PnPP Presidential Regime (December 2011 - March 2012)

From December to March, the PnPP managed to lead three different governments in NZ, this type of rule had not been seen since the Aotearoa era. Oboacer served in all three administrations, holding the role of VP (December) and Minister of Information (January, February). He also ran for PnPP PP during this period and was elected in both January and February.

In this latter role, he provided PnPP Country President Xanthar Zaiban with broad party support and helped to ensure he became the first NZ President to win re-election. His leadership of the party saw the PnPP reach its height of power, with strong parliamentary results, control of the Presidency and the status of having over 100 members. However, he was also involved in the party's association with NZ's first wipe off the map, a blight the PnPP has been stained with.

By later March, RL had become hectic for Obo and he slowly started to level down his duties. He made it clear he would not stand for PP again and also would not serve in the incoming UIS government. A vacation was in order.

Break

Following the completion of his Cabinet duties in March and the end of the campaign, Oboacer returned to the role of a Congressmen. His attention has been focused on RL issues and he sought to take a break from his duties within the game. During this time period, he continued to two-click but took relatively no part in daily life of NZ.

Periodically during the break, he would post an article or comment upon others but this was the extent of his activity. However, during the bitter fallout of the Document Leak Scandal Obo did pen a commentary on the current status of NZ affairs and did seek to work behind the scenes to heal the rifts.

Return to Activity

By later April with RL finally calming, Oboacer was able to return. He began slowly, releasing various articles commenting on world affairs, domestic politics and of course the PnPP. He worked with the new PnPP leadership of Ginny Tory (April) and Valentyme (May) to help build the party up and prepare it for the future. He announced his support for E.L.E.A.N.O.R. successful June CP bid and also indicated he would run for PP in June.

On May 9, he was appointed Minister of Education and Minister of Information by President Minister Terminator and therefore resumed his active role in the NZ government. He kept up his duties but also worked hard to campaign for the PP, at this time he was supported by both Tory and Valentyme, two figures who grown to distrust each other within the party. In the June CP elections, the party was successful in electing a CP and it once again joined the Cabinet. Obo refused a Cabinet role and instead focused on seeking the PP, which he was duly elected in a landslide.

Issues had begun to bubble under the surface in the PnPP during Obo's final term as PP. Both Tory and Valentyme had a falling out and become bitterly opposed to each other, especially in regards to the PnPP's cooperation with the UIS and L&P in running Congressional elections. While these differences were papered over during Obo's time as leader, his RL commitments grew and he slowly relinquished authority to the party secretary and Tory supporter Isaac Anderson. Eventually, Obo went silent and his term was completed by Anderson.

Exile and Wanders (June 2012 - July 2015)

Although appointed the NZ government, Obo took on an increasing reduced role as RL commitments arose and he was forced to back down from his responsibility. He reduced already the minimal role he played in the government, he took a backseat to PnPP affairs (refusing to run for PP in June) and finally by August had completely shut himself out of NZ and eRepublik all together.

Over the next three years, he effectively wandered the world and focused almost solely on RL issues. Much changed in NZ but the legacy of his career in NZ began to fade. His friends slowly drifted away, many others simply left NZ all together and little was heard or said from him. Occasional whispers of himarose and the PnPP continued to function (with many speaking highly of his role in the party's past) but that was the limit of it. No one quite knew where exactly he had wandered to and just what he was doing. All that was understood was that large political voice in NZ had gone silent and many wondered if it would ever return.

Surprise Return (July 2015)

Rumors of a return quickly spread through NZ when a new player known as Lartius Aznable appeared on the scene and quickly began to promote himself through a series of articles. While few at the time that this was, in fact, Obo, many saw a reminder of that veteran player in the articles and his quick political commentary. However, few could have been prepared for the knowledge that over 3 years later Oboacer would be making his return.

And return he did. After contacting the admins (having his old account restored) he then contacted veteran friends like CC, Spud, Dizzy Helen Moon and Brigidd. His arrival was quickly greeted with fanfare by those friends who still remained and he soon found himself thrust back into the realm of politics that he loved. He duly rejoined the PnPP and was subsequently promoted as 2nd Commander of the Deathwatch Guard. His renewed dedication did not go unnoticed either by the ruling UIS, who endorsed his return article.

Only one day after his arrival, PnPP PP JarkesH announced a party leadership and brought Oboacer back into the fold, appointing him to the position of Secretary General (the new title Party Secretary) with a mandate to reactivate the party and made it a force again. Thus, only a mere day and nearly three years after leaving the New World, Obo had not only made his return felt but had resumed his role within the party leadership. He was widely recognized for his ability and quickly sought to take a tough line against the 1st New Zealand Dictatorship.
