Rank Template

I found Error in this template, It is not working for some ranks like National Force*** , World Class Force** and *** , Legendary Force* , ** and *** . It is unable to open some images :/ Flag of Iran Ali Emami ~ talk ~ 03:35, 29 September 2011 (PDT)

It's a mediawiki issue in the image size converter and the database as it can't find the file from the filesystem to convert it into a smaller file. We know this but there's nothing we can do. And as eRepublik Team is not willing to do anything about it, we just have to deal with it. What we CAN do is a temporary fix so that your browser handles the size conversion instead of the mediawiki servers. But this would make the image not so good looking for all ranks. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 05:40, 29 September 2011 (PDT)

New Uber editors

Timeoin and vSkyzv are now officially Uber Editors of this wiki. Congratulations! Also from this day forward, a retired uber editor will get his/her status back by a simple message here in the bar. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 09:23, 1 October 2011 (PDT)

Sweet! I'm an Uber again! :D Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 21:33, 1 October 2011 (PDT)

New Changes?

Apparently there is some big changes heading our way after Maintenance finishes. That, or they are waiting for the people annoyed about Kosovo being added to finish up, so they can get on with running the game. Anyways ... when we work out what it is, there'll be pages to update. Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 05:18, 5 October 2011 (PDT)

And nothing happened! SURPRISE!!! --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 08:53, 5 October 2011 (PDT)
Time again. This time an hour... In the same time, be prepared for new things to be added in eRepublik. We can assure you that some of them will represent a bit of surprise. :) Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 02:08, 6 October 2011 (PDT)
May be a bug, but everyone can now work again if they worked before maintenance Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 03:00, 6 October 2011 (PDT)
Considering the bugs are with working, its likely a change to the economy module? Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 03:52, 6 October 2011 (PDT)
The "Country status" is removed Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 04:17, 6 October 2011 (PDT)

The structure of gameplay articles

Here's a message Belea left to my talk page:

Belea's ideas

I've mentioned at one point in time that the Wiki is organized as a "tutorial". Let's change it to "concepts". My main arguments for this:

  • tutorials tend to become lengthy... just wall of texts which nobody (except, maybe, very hard core users) reads them;
  • people search for one word concepts - health, captain, war, elections...

In this spirit:

And so on...

I liked this: http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Portal:Military .... because it was based on a huge concept...

Anyway... the above things are just ideas... thank you all for your passion! May you continue to contribute much and well!

With respect,

--Belea2008 07:48, 7 October 2011 (PDT)

What do you think? I agree with Belea that there's too much information about some pages. Information you need is also very hard to find if you don't know where to look from. The new homepage makes this a bit easier but still there's a lot of problems.

I'll try to come up with somekind of structure we could possibly use but first I'd like to hear your opinions about this. What's wrong with the wiki and how we could make it better? What parts of the current structure you like? Is there a need for a total organization reform? --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 12:58, 7 October 2011 (PDT)

We can start by improving links between articles, to show that the Wiki has much more information on a particular topic. This will allow us to keep individual articles brief and to the point. Portals are nice, but take too much effort to maintain.
And I agree with Belea's point, a lot of articles are written so that they describe the Economy, Military, etc. page but not the actual concept.
My original Template:MenuEconomy is too cluttered and hard to edit, but was my initial attempt to link between related articles. I've been thinking of a replacement: User:VSkyzv/Template:MenuEconomy2. It's only an experimental version, if people like it, I'll complete it with a redesigned template and such.--vSkyzv Icon-USA.png Talk - Contribs 15:04, 7 October 2011 (PDT)
I like both templates, doesn't stop having both? But I can say Template2 is easier to see and use compared to one. -- Icon-Australia.png Mikhail Alexander | Talk 18:02, 7 October 2011 (PDT)
Hey guys, this discussion is not about templates. But now that you both want to talk about it I must say both of the templates are way too complex and the style of the second one is ancient. But templates are not going to solve these problems. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 22:43, 7 October 2011 (PDT)

To better understand, in the New World, citizens do actions in order to achieve individual or communal goals. Moving further with this "general game design statement", we have as actions:

as individual goals:

and as communal goals:

  • conquer region/country;
  • defend region/country;
  • liberate region;
  • gain independence;
  • obtain the majority of congress seats;
  • win the presidential elections;
  • uber alliance purposes;
  • you and your friends (e.g. group) reach economic self-sufficiency;
  • organize/participate in successful real life meetings
  • political takeover of a country :(
  • organize a religious movement
  • participate in a rebellion :((
  • meet new people
  • make friends (real life ones included)
  • get virtually or real life married
  • adopt a citizen
  • get virtually divorced
  • become a contributor to a virtual encyclopedia
  • have fun
  • etc.

I'll stop for now... :P --Belea2008 02:56, 8 October 2011 (PDT)

I like these ideas. +1 for this (I'll try and find time to help out with it shortly!) Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 20:40, 8 October 2011 (PDT)
Off the top of my head: Political take over already exists as Political_takeover, but will need updating as to the new page structures. Whilst I'm at it though - what sort of system do we want here? All uppercase, or all lowercase? Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 20:42, 8 October 2011 (PDT)
I'm in favor of all lowercase... --Belea2008 00:54, 10 October 2011 (PDT)
Wrote up ones for Battle hero, Campaign hero, and Resistance hero. Will write up some more of the Achievements later. Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 21:00, 8 October 2011 (PDT)
Slow down Timeoin. For the medals, I just suggest a simple redirect to the Achievements page with a hash that scrolls the page automatically to the right location (like Achievements#BH. That's easier for us as if something changes we don't need to fix so many pages. The pages are gonna be stub and While citizen reads information about CH, she might also want to know about other medals too :). The information about these actions (which page is so not needed :D) should be only written only once in the wiki and add links pointing there where ever needed. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 00:38, 9 October 2011 (PDT)
I'm in favor of having a page for each achievement. Also, written with lower cases (example: Battle hero). Regarding this "citizen reads information about CH, she might also want to know about other medals too", I suggest we add a "Template Menu" to all of these pages (the same way the "Products" pages work right now). --Belea2008 02:10, 12 October 2011 (PDT)
And FYI, the structure for war is following: War has campaigns and campaign has 8-15 battles. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 00:41, 9 October 2011 (PDT)
What is uber alliance? --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 03:16, 9 October 2011 (PDT)
By "uber alliance" I mean EDEN/Terra/ONE/etc. --Belea2008 01:39, 10 October 2011 (PDT)
No idea :D Most of those communal goals are pretty irrelevant anyways and do not get a page in wiki :> --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 03:38, 9 October 2011 (PDT)
Actually, they're not. What do you do when you achieve everything (in terms of game play)...? All the achievements and so on... You either "take a break" (2 clicking) or you get involved in these communal goals. To better understand, communal goals are strongly connected to emergent "game play" (set out to achieve goals which are not designed in the game, they're community created and driven). Let me know if something is unclear... --Belea2008 02:10, 12 October 2011 (PDT)
Well, I do kind of understand where he is coming from. People want to know what the Build action/button is - there is (currently)very little/nothing on this that isnt obvious to people such as us, who frequent here often. Wikis should be easy to navigate and understand, not extremely mysterious :) Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 08:34, 9 October 2011 (PDT)
Well, they don't need to have articles for fun, troll, virtual encyclopedia, divorce, married, adopt, people etc either :D --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 08:43, 9 October 2011 (PDT)
Why not? :D --Belea2008 02:10, 12 October 2011 (PDT)
Well, Virtual Encyclopedia could link to the main page, or to the Erepublik page? Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 01:07, 10 October 2011 (PDT)
Or eRepublik... --Belea2008 02:10, 12 October 2011 (PDT)
Or New World... --Belea2008 06:41, 14 October 2011 (PDT)
Rewrote some parts of the FAQ and divided the Game Play section into subsections.--vSkyzv Icon-USA.png Talk - Contribs 21:00, 11 October 2011 (PDT)
I would remove that page in its entirety, after moving all the relevant information from it to other pages/articles/concepts. --Belea2008 02:10, 12 October 2011 (PDT)
I agree, the FAQ page is horribly messy, I would delete it immediately or make something so it isn't a wall of text. --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 03:49, 14 October 2011 (PDT)

Templates, Menus, and the like

I'm proposing a new menu system, since menus have been getting out of hand lately. I have to admit, I have been partially at fault. Template:MenuEconomy, for example, is horribly complex and cluttered. The new system I'm proposing is hopefully more intuitive, more user-friendly, prettier, and less complex. This is sort of related to Belea's point about making articles relate to concepts.

Example of new menus: User:VSkyzv/Food

The top menu will have ideas that are closest to the item being discussed in the article. In this case, the closest ideas are other products. Some articles already use this system, like Health, but I made a new template (User:VSkyzv/Template:MenuProducts|Template:MenuProducts, which uses User:VSkyzv/Template:TopMenu|Template:TopMenu) which looks more like the language menu template, so the top menus don't look like a jumbled mess.

The bottom will have a general outline of the broader subject. In this case, it is the economy. (The example uses User:VSkyzv/WikiMap.)

--vSkyzv Icon-USA.png Talk - Contribs 19:41, 9 October 2011 (PDT)

No offence but I find the other system to be quite organised and easier to read. I'm finding troubles of me using this system for the benefit of other citizens. I can't see how they would like this system when they could easily use the other. I think a poll vote in the game or something would be best. For the people's sake, I mean, I just look up what I want in the search bar, no need for the links on the page :3 -- Icon-Australia.png Mikhail Alexander | Talk 19:48, 9 October 2011 (PDT)
How about the top menu? I think that's still a reasonable proposal.--vSkyzv Icon-USA.png Talk - Contribs 04:02, 11 October 2011 (PDT)
The top menu looks nice but the bottom menu is complicated as hell (text everywhere) --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 05:56, 11 October 2011 (PDT)
I installed the top menu template on the products pages. I decided to abandon the WikiMap idea and just rework Template:MenuEconomy. I dumped all of the subpages (the top menus will replace their function) and condensed the remaining menu.--vSkyzv Icon-USA.png Talk - Contribs 02:18, 14 October 2011 (PDT)

A heads up...

I talked with Belea today and he said that there's going to be a lot to do in wiki in the following weeks and months. There's some changes coming to the game and we need to keep the wiki updated. He also said that we could start moving to the "concept" styled wiki by adding the new concept articles to a new category. Then after enough is done we well sort the old articles out of the way. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 07:37, 14 October 2011 (PDT)

Sigh. As long as they dont do an Erepublik Rising on us again :) Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 08:12, 14 October 2011 (PDT)
"could" is the key word here. The Wiki is basically dead, as there are no Wiki Engineers around, which killed eRepublik Official Wiki:Suggest (I don't say it was good idea anyway), and is also killing Wiki (e.g. image scaling issues which persist for around a year and no one gives a damn about it)... --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 03:41, 15 October 2011 (PDT)
As long as Belea gives us enough information about the changes, sometimes everything is not shown, I think that this will be easy to handle, we just need to observe and then make the changes that are necessary, I would however like to see a information post from admin about the new changes. Then we here at the wiki can write and make a few decent pages out of it, but we do require some raw material to work with.--Lonestar The Brave 16:43, 15 October 2011 (PDT)
You may remember, once upon a time there was a forum called "Uber Editors", where Belea was putting infos about updates, but you know, the Forum has "technical issues" :> --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 05:09, 16 October 2011 (PDT)

Image Displaying issue

User:Mikhail_Alexander/Skills - Not to be annoying but I think we have a image displaying issue, does anyone know how to fix it? :3 -- Icon-Australia.png Mikhail Alexander | Talk 21:38, 14 October 2011 (PDT)

You can't really fix it as it's a problem in wiki software. Admins haven't fixed even though it has been known like a year now... --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 22:36, 14 October 2011 (PDT)
Great, I'll have to rank up quicker then. -- Icon-Australia.png Mikhail Alexander | Talk 23:08, 14 October 2011 (PDT)
And they want us to keep Wiki updated. That's pathetic... --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 03:30, 15 October 2011 (PDT)
I must say that if they are focusing on improving the game and thus putting fixing up the wiki as 2nd prio I have nothing against it, but I would however like to point out that I then expect the improvements for the real game to be quite awesome.--Lonestar The Brave 16:40, 15 October 2011 (PDT)
Lonestar, they're putting "fix the wiki" not as 2nd prio, but as 100000th prio, they don't give a damn about it. --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 05:05, 16 October 2011 (PDT)

Military Units question

Here's a question for you all: Apparently Members of a military unit can be kicked out of them. Who, then, can do this? For example, can a Captain of a regiment (voted in personel, that is) be kicked out by a second in command (i.e. appointed role, unvoted)? I ask because the 2nd in command of my MU does not like me, and I am about to become a captain of a regiment. Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 09:24, 15 October 2011 (PDT)

It shouldn't really matter unless the 1st in command hates you.--vSkyzv Icon-USA.png Talk - Contribs 09:26, 15 October 2011 (PDT)
The Commander, 2nd Commanders as well as your own Regiment Captain are able to kick you out of the Military Unit if you have been a member for two days or more.--Lonestar The Brave 16:38, 15 October 2011 (PDT)
If you are elected Captain, no one can touch you unless you leave. Commander or 2nd Commander can't touch you, I learnt this in my MU in Belgium, they are permanent unless they leave. -- Icon-Australia.png Mikhail Alexander | Talk 17:04, 15 October 2011 (PDT)
I got removed as the Military Unit Captain. Either RonnyJnrJnr or Henry the 8th fired me, not sure which. Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 16:21, 16 October 2011 (PDT)
I didn't know that could happen :3 -- Icon-Australia.png Mikhail Alexander | Talk 14:13, 18 October 2011 (PDT)

Company page

Minor API bot problem.

Just letting (someone?) know - there is a minor problem with the Tax template. For whatever reason, the Food raw material and Weapons raw material do not show up on the template. Icon-Australia.png I worked out what the problem was there (code was copied wrong). Next one: Region Data is rather wrong. For instance, there are 311 citizens in New South Wales, but on the Australia page, it displays it as 100 something. Icon-Australia.png Timeoin|Say G'Day 17:29, 25 October 2011 (PDT)

The bot can't read the population data because of a glitch the developers haven't fixed.--vSkyzv Icon-USA.png Talk - Contribs 18:36, 25 October 2011 (PDT)
The data can be read but it requires fetching 500something pages to get the right ones. The map population data is completely random. That's why the population numbers are no longer used in region template. --Icon-Finland.png sampo555 | Talk 23:00, 25 October 2011 (PDT)
The more global problem is, the API is basically dead :3 --Icon-Poland.png Grzechooo drop a line 05:36, 26 October 2011 (PDT)
