The Department of Defense (Filipino: Kagawaran ng Pagtatanggol), abbreviated as DOD, is an executive department of the Philippines.

Throughout it history, the department went through various name changes: Department of National Defense (DND), Ministry of Defense (MOD), National Security Council (NSC), Armed Forces Committee (AFC), and People's Commissariat for Military Affairs (PCMA).

History

The Department of Defense was established on 6 April 2009 by President Big Boy Bulley along with the Department of Finance, Department of Foreign Affairs, and Department of Home Affairs. HazzN was appointed as the first Director of Defense.
