Russia is a nation which regained its independence in February 2009. It is the largest country in eRepublik. Russia was also the first to implement Socialism in eRepublik, and was home to various strong and powerful political figures who are still active today. The country is located in northern Eurasia. Russia is currently bordered by Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Norway, Germany, Hungary, China and Belarus, as well as having maritime borders with the USA and Japan. The capital region is Leningrad Oblast.
History of Russia
Russia was taken over during the Great Patriotic War when Norway invaded the large but unpopulated country. However, the Russian Independence War began in November 2008 and Russia was re-established as a free nation. Again in January of 2009 Russia was again invaded by Romania who took over all of the regions. In February, Russia achieved independence again in the Far Eastern and Kaliningrad regions. The Northern region, which had been conquered from Romania by Indonesia, was regained in March. A resistance war against Norway returned the Volga region later in the month. In April, Russia declared war on Norway and seized Volga Vyatka, marking the end of Norwegian occupation of Russian territory. Romania's eventual defeat allowed Russia to regain its old territories. In May-October Russia has been a member of Circle of Trust, the alliance which heavily lost to CODE. Later Rusia has been a founder of Pacifica, becoming the world's largest productin base after two Resource wars, leaving it 7 years later to join CODE.

Population
Since the beginning, Russia has had a small population given that very few native Russians actually play eRepublik. It is gradually increasing as territory is regained. Most of the population lived in the capital region Kaliningrad, where slowly the population began to shift to Moscow. Russian population had greatly increased for a few months. Moscow and Central Russia was known to be the biggest Russian "fortresses" and has a population of 2156. Russia's population has since been decreasing, going to 20000 citizens in June 2010.
Language
Russian is the most common language in Russia, however, a number of other languages (eg. Serbian, French, Macedonian) were also spoken at a time due to recent migrations from formerly conquered France and Germany. English is used to communicate with foreign and non-Russian speaking citizens, although quite a few native Russians can speak English properly as of May 2021.

Media
History of Media
Being a small country Russia only had a couple newspapers which drew much attention.
Pravda!: The most popular was "Soviet Empire News," later known as "Pravda!" created by HateBot. It was created to be the official propaganda organ of the country and served well with increasing popularity. Since the ,invasion it has removed its ties with the CPSU (later known as the RRF) in pursuit of a more diplomatic Russian future. It is the most active of the previous Russian papers, and the most accredited for quality writing.
Izvestia! While Pravda! was the propaganda wing of Soviet Russia, Izvestia! was the official government wing. Created by Manifesto to provide Russians with a more official and factual basis for the becoming of the country during CPSU rule. It has since become "The Red Army Liberator" organizing the "Red Resistance Front" against Norway. It hasn't seen much activity lately.
Workers and Soldiers Created by loyal CPSU member Che Burashka, it had very little activity during CPSU rule; however, it has since devoted it articles to criticizing the Norwegian government's political structure and inefficiencies. One of the few remaining and active Russian papers.
Unknown: A newspaper by Siberian Fox during Soviet rule (one of the few critics of the regime) gained increasing popularity, however, he has since discontinued his life as a public politician.
Greater Urals Gazette: a newspaper by Sasha Igorovich, it was the official state paper, reporting events of the government and improvements to the country. It has since seen a small spike in activity, criticizing the Norwegian government, but not much.
Various Others Various other papers by CPSU members began getting increased popularity during Soviet rule, more notably "TASS," however, it hasn't seen much activity lately.
