Politics

France is a democratic republic ruled by the President of the French Republic. The President can create new ministers.

The Laws are voted on by the Congress.

The "Assemblée Constituante", which was composed of congressmen and former mayors (following the last local elections of September 20th 2008), has written a proposal for a first French Constitution. It presented its work to the President on April 4th, 2009.

It was ratified by the people of France through a referendum on April 7th, 2009.

It was officially published on April 8th, 2009.

The Constitution sets the legal frame that each French laws and institution will have to satisfy.
