Last Update Day 680 of the New World - September 30, 2009

The Republic of South Africa (Afrikaans: Die Repebliek van Suid-Afrika; Zulu: iRiphabhuliki yaseNingizimu Afrika; or just South Africa) consists of two regions. The country is located on the southern African continent. The original coastline stretched 2,798 kilometers and bordered both the Atlantic Ocean and Indian Ocean. As a consequence of the Indonesia-South Africa War, South Africa lost the majority of its territory, becoming a landlocked nation. To the north of South Africa lie the plains of the unexplored African continent; to the south, Brazilian and Indonesian occupied South Africa.

In the last week of May a PTO, or Political Takeover was executed by Indonesia and Brazil. The entire country was evacuated in the time leading up to the PTO. The 5 northern provinces were occupied by Brazil for about two months. After much negotiation, the region of Limpopo was returned to the citizens of South Africa. Recently the region of Free State was also returned.

South Africa is known for its diversity and welcomed numerous citizens from around the world, including real-life South Africans, Americans, Swedes (these three forming the largest RL population groups), Romanians, Australians, and others, thus English and Afrikaans are spoken as main languages. South Africa is ethnically diverse with the population coming from the four corners of The New World. In early May 2009, South Africa's population was estimated at 1010 people, having nearly doubled since November 2008. At this moment South Africa is in economic ruins, with a small population of 600-700 trying to rebuild the country after retaking it.

History

Politics

The National Flag of South Africa being hoisted after reclaiming Limpopo.

The political structure of South Africa currently consists of a variety of South African and foreign political parties.

Before the May PTO by Brazil and Indonesia, which completely took over and dismantled the nation of South Africa, the South African political system was as fragmented as ever. The two biggest parties were Free Africa and the Black Lion Front. Because of political bickering, it has always been hard for South Africans to unite as one in times of need, which is often the cause of the nation's downfall to outside coups.

From August 2008 to December 2008, the political system of South Africa had been split into two large groups: The Croatian - African UNION and their supporters and the South African Independence League, a coalition of South African parties and their supporters, consisting mainly of South Africans who wished to take back the country from Croatian, or rather Zockyist, occupation.

Government

The city of Polokwane, the country's current capitol.

The government of South Africa is made up of two branches: the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch. The Executive Branch consists of the President of South Africa and six president-appointed cabinet members. The cabinet positions are Vice-President, Minister of Economics, Minister of the Military, Minister of Social Affairs, Minister of Intelligence, and Minister of Information. The Legislative Branch is the South African Congress, which has ten available seats. Congressmen vote on laws, proposals, and regulations that affect the South African people.

Population Dynamics

In the months before the Croat PTO, the population of the Republic of South Africa had boomed, and at the end of October 2008 it had risen to over 500 people. And just before the most recent PTO by the Brazilians the Population edged close to the 1000 mark. This was an impressive rise in the South African population, but a majority of the population went into "Refugee Status" rather than stay in Brazilian/Indonesian Held Regions.

The region of Limpopo (SA's only region) has a population of 700+ that is increasing very rapidly.

Languages

The official language of South Africa is English, and although there were many Croatian immigrants who spoke in their native tongue, most media, press releases, and day-to-day language was kept in one uniform language. Other prominent languages that were spoken were Dutch and Afrikaans, that were used sparingly between native South Africans.

Forum

South Africa has also set up an official forum, that is still used today by many to discuss many things, it was also the center-point for foreign ambassadors, and was the mainframe of organization for various levels of the South African cabinet. The forum located at http://z6.invisionfree.com/eSouth_Africa/index.php? is being used more and more every day, and hopefully will become a full-citizen experience. Or try our old one at http://z3.invisionfree.com/eSouth_Africa

Religion

The Church of the One God in Latter Days had a regional headquarters in South Africa. There were approximately 13 Marmans in the eRepublic.

Records

Jizzie is considered to of been one of the greatest presidents in eSA's history.
