Last update March 28th 2013

Belgium (French: Belgique, Dutch: België, German: Belgien) is a small country in Western Europe. Belgium is currently in its third era of existence, having been part of two different unions, one with the Icon-UK.png UK and one with the Icon-Netherlands.png Netherlands, called the Icon-United Netherlands.png United Netherlands. Belgium is a parliamentary democracy. It had maintained a neutral stance in the politics and wars surrounding it, until recently when it has declared it's support for the Circle of Trust (CoT) and is now a full member.

Main article: History of Belgium

Belgium was among the first countries in the beginning of eRepublik. Belgium's population grew slowly before they agreed to merge with the United Kingdom in April 2008. In February 2009, 10 months after Belgium merged with the United Kingdom, two resistance wars were launched to free Belgium, the first failed but the next succeeded. It wasn't until the 21st February 2009 before Belgium became a complete independent nation.

Government

The Belgium Parliament (Belgisch Parlement - parlement belge)

The following table lists the current members of the Belgian cabinet:

Name Position
Alexandross President
Zangetsu-osan Vice-President
JdlF Minister of Finance
BrunoCND Vice Minister of Finance
MisziPL Minister of Foreign Affairs
Elynnie Vice Minister of Immigration
Zangetsu-osan Minister of Immigration
Mudduck95 Minister of Home Affairs
Nihil.sine.deo Minister of Defense
Programme Tvvince & BelgiumGeneral Vice Minister of Defence
Dardrew Ministry of Intern Relations
Kiyonori Dragnier Minister of Education
Dan/naD Wilshire Minister of National Security
MCKitkat Vice Minister of National Security
Jens Leupe Ministry of FUN

A formal structure of the Belgian cabinet was specifically not included in the constitution when it was created. Although there have been several amendments proposed to include one, none have been successful to date, with few making it to a vote. The reason for this is to allow the president to structure his/her cabinet as they wish to maximize the efficiency of the government. As of yet, no two consecutive presidents have used the same cabinet structure.

An example of the advantages of this flexibility is Thore Thoreson's cabinet in July-August 2010 where the new position of Chief of Staff was created so that Medrolke could be a member of the cabinet without having to manage a ministry, which he wasn't able to do as he was serving in the US military at the time.
